The problems with iron/wood/vests that I've found are as follows:
With this in mind, I found that resized weightless pistons could be good substitutes but may pose a risk of breaking limbs/worsening falls, also they look rather wonky...
The armor that I'd prefer would allow mobility/tool usage and be strong enough to resist explosions. Which I've tried for hours to make, but can't wrap my head around how to get that exact balance.
Get a structural pole, resize it to the size of around a middle torso or a bit less if you want your human to be more mobile. connect the pole to a PART of the torso, don't connect it to other parts if you don't want your human to be like a rigid stick. Make the pole weightless, and you're basically done. Repeat with other bodyparts. Also, for the hand issue thing; just disable the arms' collisions, it won't be much of a problem, I do it very often
Yeah, interestingly back when this post was made Phase Links or bulletproof sheets didn't even exist, so it was much more of a challenge to make any kind of armor for humans without a dedicated anti shrapnel block + dealing with everything colliding with the human. I ended up using Batteries for armor back then because they didn't explode like they do now and were able to tank rounds from sniper rifles/weren't super heavy.
I don't remember if it actually works but a good trick to stop human necks from spinning around was to connect a phase link between the armor and the human, which prevented any kind of collision when spawning them (I think it mostly depends on the weight of the armor though because it randomly happens sometimes even with that...)
I believe it also majorly depends on the position of the human when you save them too, certain positions will almost always result in bone breakage when spawning them in, a neutral standing posture is usually ideal for that.
