How did this game get a release here?
On the wikipedia page the dev's name isn't mentioned anywhere, the developer is stated as "Oberon Games" who were later acquired by "iWin, Inc." It's interesting seeing no mention of either of these companies; not to mention the original publisher being Microsoft itself.

This is what I'm wondering as well, doesn't seem to be official.
cheap unity knockoff

based on the game files, it seems the entire game was rebuilt in unity
i assume someone just remade the game in unity and released it on steam, hoping for a quick buck
no idea how legal that would be, but its still a really well made copy if so, and it is only like $2..

You could say it's an unofficial remaster. This MUST be breaking some copyright law, no doubt about it, so i'd say get it now before steam catches on and removes it from the store

Yeah. At least it sells for a fair price. And technically the game is completely legal since it doesn't use the same name and all the art assets are new. But it's just a clone. Functionally, the game is the same though so I'm sure it's good enough to fulfill the nostalgia people have for the game. Though maybe they'll notice if the sound effects and music are significantly different.

I would respect the developer if he remastered the game for free as same as the original as a fan work to play free on Steam and/or Itch.io without downloading any packages from the internet "junkyard".

"I would only respect someone if they did work for free and then gave it to me"

Interesting viewpoint

There exists tons of games that weren't designed to run on Linux; but runs thanks to all the work done by Wine and Proton developers.

I meant that it was done on purpose as it was a windows 7 game
