Missing item to progress (act 3 spoilers)

I'm in the apartments level and I somehow missed out on grabbing the lighter earlier on while in the basement due to accidentally skipping that entire section by solving the colour puzzle without turning the lights on, now I need the lighter for the boiler but I don't have it and I can't go back for it either. Am I screwed? Did I actually soft-lock the game by doing that and I now need to start all over?

I'm afraid you are stuck at the moment :(

We did not take into account that you could bruteforce the code or get it by accident. In the next update we will prevent this behaviour, but for now you'll have to start over the game. I'm very sorry.

What happens if you accidentally drag something off your inventory to try and use it, and the object disspears???!!!! Why not allow, at least, a level reset? Why do i have to start all the way over for a glitch in YOUR game?
