I was hoping for a reasonable young man she’d be ok with. Eh well...
Or an irresponsible little twerp that needs a beating :P
Edit: I can imagine how the 13 year old scullery maid that was slaving away 24/7 would think of her. Entitled, lazy, aristocratic brat. I don’t mind the way she was written but as with Merida I hate the character. Selfish lil brats.
Yup. The game also has her find the ‘love of her life’ at 12. Fat chance. She’d break up in a year. Or come running home a week later when she realised there’s stuff like cooking and laundry and no servants to do it. Best ending for me would have been: Keep the brat at home.
But your daughter will hate your decision and hate you for it - that's the trade off.
I also decided to let her go. But I believe it's possible to stop her. I will have to try in my next playthrough.
I do not think any of this is poorly written. It makes sense.
I do not recall any of the ingame's characters to possibly meet your said expectations there. It feels more you got focused on her for being a lesbian, considering your initial post.
Also, depending on your choices, she certainly showed a more indepth level to me in my playthrough, beyond what you may have experienced. Either that, or your perception might be clouded with your weird focus on "generic too cool for school lesbian" thingy.
And even then, I wouldn't say that "too cool for school" is an accurate description. She's more of a rowdy character, but she's not doing it because she's trying to be cool. She just wants to have fun.
I don't know why you'd bother to reply to a three year old post. I don't remember the characters or what happened in the game, I just remember it not being very re-playable, so I guess that speaks for the writing.
That being said, she totally is an overused trope for lesbians. That's fine, most of the story is very cliche, but it's written well enough to hit home, and I think that's more important than whether or not any character is an overused trope. The queen is also an overused trope for non-monarch queens. Dutiful wife, supports the king, wants to bear him a son and is willing to sacrifice her own well-being for it even if the king doesn't ask for it, likes overly frilly things, etc. Pumpkin (her canon nickname as far as im concerned) is also a reverse trope for disney princesses (since all the animals that flock to her don't fare so well), the deserter has a mandatory "i have a family" story to make you question the decision, etc.
None of that matters - they coalesce into a well written story. Predictable? Good, that means it makes sense and it made you pay attention. If you want your expectations to be subverted watch the star wars sequels and come back to tell us how good they are.
