no ai
I thought there would be machine learning and such, you take path a and the ai ackonoledges that so predicts it. Then it turns out youll only take path a 30% of the time so the ai will more often back path b, and the ai also notices you stop moving after making a jump etc etc
but instead when turning on predictions it seems random and stupid. might as well just randomly spawn spikes (what the ""AI"" does anyway) or use some maths to figure the predicted trajectory of the player, which the game doesnt really even seem to do.

Most embarissingly perhaps, is if you just move in one direction the """AI""" will never realise that, and there will just continue to be random spikes all around. There is no AI.

So the game really just is some rage reflex tester. Nothing more.

it's still an ai, but not a machine learning ai. no one said it would be a machine learning one. here is an article which explains what types of ai there are: https://www.educba.com/types-of-artificial-intelligence/ it doesnt need to have memory and deep learning to be called ai. most AIs are not learning.

cheers for the source though to me that sounds dumb, a man-made intelligence that cant even remember - or learn. And I'd be very curious how the ""AI"" in this game works because so far nothing can convince me it's not /effectivelly/ just spewing random spikes.
Not to bring up the topic the whole idea is stupid anyway, a game that actively tries to learn your human playstyle and make the game impossible - because that's easy as piss: add an obstacle everywhere the player can go until there is no possible path, but eh whatever

in settings > gameplay > extras, you can turn "show AI prediction" on, to see what path the AI thinks you'll go. in that path it'll spawn traps. thats how the AI works. jonas Tyroller (the dev of this game) also explained it in one of his youtube videos about this game.

Yeah turning on the ai prediction shows some white line that spazzes out for zero reason. Especially true if you literally do nothing, the line seemingly is just bloody random. And would you know which video he talks about the ais behaviour? theres plenty of his vids on will you snail
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

this video also explains it, and explains that the prediction has an element of randomness involved to prevent exploits

Righto thanks, it seems it was random bs to me largely because there would just be spikes bloody everywhere (I guess I shouldnt try easy mode, probably equivalent to nightmare), and there seemed to be zero good guess work/intelligence, turning on prediction viewing it just looks random garbage... because it is intentionally made random-ish(??) and because there is zero learning/memory, so if you do nothing but move one way the ai wont realise this and wont put a spike in a certain spot that kills you (because the random element chose some stupid place to put the spike), and also the ai won't realise youre just going one way so optimise your death with a close spike etc.

Overall im rather dissapointed the ai isn't actually smart, literally just "in some moments if nothing changes the player will end here - but actually let me randomise it a bit to "account" for the player cheating the ai, and therefore create the illusion not of intelligence but of randomness"

Right, I agree it's not that smart as you would expect... But it's still predicting and I personally haven't seen any platformer game do that. Also it's far from being random, the game would be a lot easier if that were the case imo.

Sometimes the trap placements are a bit dumb too because the ai doesn't take the shape of the map into consideration. I think it only puts a spike to whatever place that's closest to it's prediction.
