You can also clear all hotkeys by using a potion of oblivion to refund your skill points.
Thank the maker. I was worried I'd have to use a save from several hours ago. Glad that isnt the case. Kinda annoyed that I had to spend like all my gold to buy the potion tho to fix an issue with the game.
Hope the developer adds the ability to clear skill slots in the future. Despite the games many flaws, its still a good game that im enjoying.
Edit: Yup, it was the UI. When using the controller UI, the skill slots arent visible on screen, so you cant see them until your ready to assign a skill to a slot and there, you cant shift click to clear it. But with Keyboard UI, the skill slots are visible on screen so you can shift click to clear them. Thus why I was getting increasingly frustrated. But issue is resolved now.
