No true offline play = No buy
Was looking forward to this, but after seeing others say it's an online only game... I will not be buying this.

Shame, cause I waited two and a half years for this game.

The races are online like Solar Crown?

That completely sounds like buying counter strike (yes that was a thing) to play against bots. It's just not 2002 anymore.

At this point I could only imagine 50+ year olds to complain about this. What was the last good multiplayer focused game that had a full offline mode?

Mind explaining your personal issue with "always online" to me so I can see where people like you are coming from?

All the forza's have offline, just some limited features when offline, And the nfs's and carx drift racing work fine offline.

I drive truck OTR i hotspot only and dont have internet at home. I want to actually own games. And play them when i want, even if a truck stop doesnt have internet, or im in a deadzone at a rest area

When it eclipses the ability to play the game solo or at all, yes it is a complaint.

They should have stated it was a online only game, which doesnt make sense since there IS a single player campaign

Always online means never offline. So, let's say the servers are down for maintenance or other reasons. We can't play at all, plus let's say you have weak internet. Always online is not ideal. Then you have the people using gaming handhelds on the go. They can't play the game at all on the go, they have to connect to wifi to play it. This game has the ability to play by yourself so why is it needed to be online?

I don't understand the appeal of racing online with a bunch of random people. To me it doesn't make a difference if they are people or AI. Plus racing online you will have those people who don't play fair and will purposely ram into just for fun. It gets annoying.

True, it doesn't make sense.

Because bot matches are still fun, especially if there's a good structure around them. Bot matches can also offer unique kinds of matches that wouldn't work in a PvP scenario. Also, plenty of people (including me) don't really enjoy online PvP. I don't even like playing PvE games online with strangers.

I mean, I own Quake 3 and all of the UT games, and I only ever play bot matches or mods that allow for local split screen. Both are actually pretty fun, and these games actually have surprisingly robust single player offerings.

Street Fighter 6? That's still pretty new. oh, and I do care, and I'm 30.

I don't like to see more media become lost. Culture is a fundamental part of the human experience and is just as important to us as it is to historians in the distant future. By making works disposable, we are working to erase our history. Something as seemingly trivial as having a functional offline mode in an otherwise online game can go a long way.

Get internet, not hard to do.

Read my other replies in this thread. It's NOT solely a matter of internet.
The-Mighty-Lulnut Aug 29, 2024 @ 6:44pm
For those curious, I bought the game to quickly test it and then refund it before leaving a warning review to onlookers. If anything, I am extremely confused as to why saves are local but the game is held on a server.
The-Mighty-Lulnut Aug 29, 2024 @ 7:23pm
Can confirm, this game is unoptimized and needs to be patched ASAP for proper offline boot up and play (Loads to 21% before getting hung and told you can't play without internet).

"you mean you have to play with your hands!!!" hahahaha most of you won't get the reference. Anyway no it's not like trying to play Counter-Strike(which was a free mod btw) with bots it's like trying to play Half-Life, the singleplayer game I payed for. You know against the AI? Back when devs weren't lazy hacks and actually tried to make good AI. Better yet it's like trying to play Need For speed, Test Drive, Midtown Madness, Midnight Club, Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero, Gran Tourismo. I know "ok boomer' I must be like 50 years old because I want to play my games when the internets down, or I just want to do a few quick races in the hour I get after my kids go to bed and don't want to deal with waiting in lobbys lag or people out right cheating. What I will never understand is why can't I just buy a game play it offline without loot boxes pedo gambling and dealing with other obnoxious players like I did for decades prior? Why do I have to get constant notifications for some limited time event I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about or have to buy in game currency with real money in a game I already ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ paid for to get the car I want instead of just enjoying the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game and earning it by winning races. Why is it I can pull my old playstation 2 out of the basement and play Grans Tourismo 2 or Tokyo Extreme Racer 3 games I bought over 20 years ago but I can't play The crew a game I bought 6 years ago. ♥♥♥♥ that I paid for them just like I paid for my house and the real fast car I have in my garage. Yeah I'm 40 I have a full time job, a mortgage, wife and kids, an old Mustang and safes full of pew pews meaning I know how to get my value out of my hard earned money and I have little time left to spare so yeah NO OFFLINE SINGLEPLAYER GAMEPLAY NO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MONEY KISS MY ASS.

That's funny

the game had online only functionality since its inception, It would only take a mere what? glance at the gameplay to realize that.

Looks like you bought it aswell so yeah, all this was a waste of time.

"You won't magically enjoy racing NPCs in a 10 year old game. And if you do, just pirate it."

Tell that to all the homies who still go back and play stuff like Need For Speed Underground 2, Hell, FlatOut just got a revival to all 3 original games and people mostly play those offline with AI and those games are like 20 years old. Besides, you completely missed his point and gave a response that doesn't actually have to do with what he was actually trying to point out. Also saying: "It's old, just pirate it." is not a legitimate response. Saying that actually hurts your view, because with the game in question (The Crew), you actually CAN'T pirate it. It's just gone. Forever. Poof. It might as well never existed.

"I still own C&C3 Kanes Wrath but what's the benefit of owning that game on steam when there's acually no way to play it with people?"

That game has got to be one of the worst games you could have used as an example to support your view. You know why? Because C&C3 Kanes Wrath (and almost EVERY C&C game) is more famous for it's awesome SOLO OFFLINE campaign than it's multiplayer, and people still play it to this day.

However, there is MUCH that you said that I agree with. Not every game is built around single player and not every multiplayer game can adjust well to it, so not every multiplayer focused game can deliver a proper offline experience Traditional MMO's are notorious for going kaput after shutdown due to way the multiplayer is handled in them, which is ok with them, because they aren't designed for single player at all. This game IS technically a MMO too, but the problem with this game (And The Crew) that makes it less justified than games like those is that there are entire modes BUILT around single player in them, that could easily be made to function offline.

Also, I'm not a boomer. I just turned 27 in June. And while I still play a lot of online games, I do go back and play older games not only on PC, but on actual older consoles too. And I emulate. And doing these things I'm doing is not a resort of age or gaming generational barriers. I know tons of homies far younger than me who do the same. I met a teenager once who was 15 who needed help setting up an emulator to play Killzone 1 on PS2 because he wanted to play the offline multiplayer with bots because he had played Killzone 4 Shadowfall on his PS4 and then wanted to play the previous games. For ♥♥♥♥♥ sake, my 8 year old nephew who only plays fortnite and apex legends got obsessed with horror movies due to getting recommended stuff about them on YouTube (Parents don't care) talked his mom into getting him a PS3 to play the Dead Space trilogy for Christmas because he only had a PS4 and PS5 and he got recommended videos on them due to watching Horror movie clips. And you know why he was able to do that? Because there was offline single player. Dead Space 3 is primarily online co-op focused. He can't play that co-op once the servers go down permanently. But guess what? He can still PLAY IT because the game is still completely playable offline in singleplayer.
