That completely sounds like buying counter strike (yes that was a thing) to play against bots. It's just not 2002 anymore.
At this point I could only imagine 50+ year olds to complain about this. What was the last good multiplayer focused game that had a full offline mode?
Mind explaining your personal issue with "always online" to me so I can see where people like you are coming from?
My biggest problem with online only games is that I feel like you never truly own the game, look at what just happened to the OG Crew game, they took the servers down and didnt give any tools for players to host their own servers. I equate it to basically being theft, sure I got a product for a while, but it was eventually taken from me without my consent.
Aggre and this game looks like you can play it easily offline. So why not give the option?
But maybe offline will come because of the Store Page it says. "New types of races and activities for the single-player mode;
"
That ultimately sounds like riding principles bro. And I get it to some extend, yet on the other hand, there's no point in playing the crew if there are no servers. You won't magically enjoy racing NPCs in a 10 year old game. And if you do, just pirate it.
I still own C&C3 Kanes Wrath but what's the benefit of owning that game on steam when there's acually no way to play it with people? The truth is, if a company shuts down service for a game, there's no way of playing that game and therefore it does not matter if you still "OWN" it. If the community manages to create working servers post service, just pirate the game. Can't be illegal to pirate software that technically does not exist. And even if it is, who gives a damn.
If the service sucks, it's your right to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it. But if it doesn't, I feel it's kinda ridiculous to moan about 20$ when there's at least 3 years of guaranteed service. And just playing an hour once a week for 3 years equals to 156 hours of gameplay which is 0,12 $ per hour of gaming.
This is way less than you would pay for any competitor in the online racing game genre. I'd think different if they basically put 50% of their content behind a paywall but this is simply not the case. By the time they have dropped service, we have probably switched the game 2 times. It simply will not matter unless you like to wank off at the number of games in your steam library. Also generally "taking away games" like it happened with the crew is against steam TOS AFAIK.
Please ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the game for its real problems, not for marginal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I do agree to an extent, servers do shut down. When a game is advertised as a piece of software, and not a live service title, it isnt unreasonable to expect that it is still usable past its service life. I still payed for a game that I am now completely unable to play, and am being forced to rely on people in the community to revive a game that should have had tools to prevent this situation from happening in the first place.
It's absolutely about the principle of taking something away that was payed for, of course i can pirate it, but i shouldn't have to do that.
I'm not making a point about the game being 20$, i feel its a fair price for the content that we can hope to expect in the future. Yes, the game has problems, but I don't want it to be misconstrued that price is one of them.
Yeah I get that it sucks and all but it's not particularly something we as gamers haven't been used to for like what? 8 years now?
There is basically no difference between shutting down servers and letting you keep the game and just deleting the game from your library. For a multiplayer game that is.
You are right, it could be the beginning of something worse but at the end of the day, even with the idea that I cannot play the game anymore in 2030, I feel this is absolutely fair.
Having offline mods would've made the game more expensive. Additional dev time, a bigger challenge with cheat protection. Would you prefer paying 10$ more so you can still play ♥♥♥♥♥♥ carx in 2035?
I'm neither defending nor attacking it. All I can tell you for sure is that, if I would've owned and played the crew, I certainly wouldn't give the slightest fk about it disappearing from my library 10 years later.
I'm also pragmatic. If I feel like playing an old ass game with no live support, I just pirate it.
Also if they didn't finish it, they didn't have it.
By the way, this is against steam TOS. If you do that on steam, you're banned from the platform. This means financial death for your company. So I really don't know why this is even worth a discussion. How about you start complaining in like 8 years, after you have completely forgotten the game exists and they potentially take it away from you?
How about you be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ happy for once, that a great game that can compete with the big boys is available for 17 fkn € with no pay2win elements? Will you happily pay 10€ more so that you can still race AI with your RTX 9080 in 2030?
I'm just bored by that. Focus your feedback on improving the game instead of circlejerking about something nobody will care about 2 months from here.
FACT: Creating an offline mode and therefore needing to code a more advanced anti cheat and anti piracy measures will cost you more than you get revenue of the 4000 people worldwide that won't buy the game because it's online only. I don't know which year we will have to reach for people to finally understand this. No company worth more than 50k will give the slightest ♥♥♥♥ about an issue that 0,1% of their customers mention and 30% of these 0,1% avoiding buying because of it.
My biggest issue is how the online races are set, you bet other players, which is fine if people wanna race for betting cash or even pink slips but i rather not tryhard an arcade racing game, would be nice if you can race other players and get paid like how NFS heat did it, pretty much the game pays you like it does offline
