Unable to pick up ham

I'm at the arneson house after talking to champagne/lucy, trying to get the signet ring. Whenever I try to pick up the ham from the counter Sherlock says "Everything in good time, but first i must find Watson", even though Watson is standing directly next to me. I've tried loading an earlier save (maybe not early enough?) with no success.

Has this happened to anyone else?

you may need to so something with the nails in the stable, sometimes the game needs you to do things in an odd order, also have you worked out who has the ring yet? Think you have to do that bit to be were your at

I have solved it. I had a bug in which when I entered the house and went upstairs, the child saw me and closed the door of him room. After that, I could not pick any item. However, if I go to the bedroom using the map and after to outside using the map again, I had no problem.
