So this game is a sheer remake of the original nier and the biggest glaring change that honestly pisses me off is the dynamic change... they go through all the trouble to get the og VA crew on board but then dont even bother with giving us a remake of what I arguably think is the better written, more heartfelt story of Nier Gestalt. The father daughter dynamic really gave the story it's weight, impact, the yanking on the heart strings, the jerking of your tears. It was just so much better and broke the old trope of "Oh no muh sister sick, I must resume my role of tropey plot armored bad@ss big brother to save my sister", that just doesnt feel well real, the brother saving the sister always feels forced, overused and generic now. But the older MC, the father, his VA made him feel real, you can hear and feel true fear, worry, desperation, anguish, resolve and sadness in his voice. So bring back Nier Gestalt, Bring back Jamieson Price, give us the real original Nier experience.


Just an FYI, yes I played both of the originals, Nier Replicant with the brother MC (playstation 3 version) and Nier Gestalt with the father MC( xbox 360, american version was just called Nier) so I am speaking as having experienced both not just one. And them ONLY giving us a remake of Replicant and just trying to overlay final fantasy art style on the characters while keeping everything else THE EXACT SAME STYLE is an insult to what was originally a beautiful game. Another thing to add, I see people are talking about all the same bugs in the new Nier replicant that were in the PS3 version Nier replicant, though funny enough Nier Gestalt had maybe two bugs that cause real issues, one being a glitch that didnt let you buy stuff if you purchased to rapidly (close and reopen shop menu fixed it) and a crash if the xbox 360 was running too hot during bullet spam boss fights.


Nier Gestalt is the superior Nier experience!

Honestly, I feel like having a younger protagonist was appropriate. The thing is, while I agree the father was much more impactful and much more dynamic with Yonah the problem with the father was that Kaine was the love interest but she was like 17 while he was like 30-40s which imo is kind of weird, not to mention every side character around him was definitely younger other than Weiss, though I think canonically Weiss was 20 when he was once human. Other than that, I 100% agree. While I love the OG Nier I really didn't like the brother really.

writting was almost the exact same, all the dynamics were the exact same, the only difference is the way the protagonist and yonah reffer to each other, the whole kaine falling in love and emil on the protagonist looked so out of place, it was funny, also timeskip makes no sense and that design is prob the worst the entire drakengard-nier has seen, this was always the original versión, papa nier was after all, forced into yoko taro for the western release

this is the story as it was meant to be, papa nier version was to appeal to western audiences. the creator said that 2 versions like this was something that he never intended on, so the version we originally got was probably forced by the publisher. honestly i feel like replicate just makes more sense when it comes down to it.

also there are mods to essentially make this game into the american release, however some voice lines dont happen in the Americanized version, so its not perfect

I've played both, and I vastly prefer this version. I think that the Brother character fits the story way better than the father character, and I think the voice acting is great. Honestly, "strong muscley father figure must save his child figure" is such a trope by this point that I don't see how you can even criticize the brother version for the same thing. Something being a trope isn't bad, it just depends on how it's executed. I enjoyed Gestalt as well, but if I had to choose, I would pick this version every time.

I just completely disagree, but you are free to your opinion. If I remember correctly, there is a mod that lets you play as the father instead, so you could give that a shot if you feel like it?

Brother Nier is a massive tool, but he is dime a dozen spiky haired anime protagonist. Pops nier is superior in every way.
Japanese bizarre obsession with young boys is way more creepy than supposed implications of kaine/papa nier.
Also while we are at it 9s would also benefit of getting aged up. Maybe not to pops level - but at least to the point where it does not look like 2b would end with statutory rape charges irl.

Imo the unique point thematic point of Nier's Story is the same, and works better with the younger character.

i agree the Yonah/Papa Nier tandem is slightly better, but that's to me the least interesting part of the game story wise.

I prefer the Kaine/Brother/Weiss tandem which who you're with the whole game. And/or imo runs 2-4 you question Brother Nier mor than you do Papa Nier. For whatever reason, atleast to me humans are more sympathetic to crazy parent doing anything to save their child, and this sympathy undermines the more interesting part of the game.

Even though I prefer Brother Nier. If the situation was reversed... I would play the updated version. The voice acting of all the side content, much better combat, playable framerate, extra side content all make a bigger difference to me than the main character.

But, they honestly should have released DLC or released a second game as Nier Gestalt as a separate game. As it would have been relatively easy money since 99% of the work was done anyways.

and if you noticed Papa nier is potrayal is bit weird because despite he is full grown 40 years old man, he acted and talk like an edgy teenager. do you know why? because he is supposed to be teenager in the first place

or do you remember in part 2 papa nier says now he is physically stronger and able to carry heavier weapon? how is that make any sense when he not change at all from 5 years ago? that's the because the original intention is to have Nier grown up from adolescent boys into adulthood

people just have misconception they intentonally change the localization version into teenager. NO. it's the quite opposite. Brother Nier is the original. papa nier is just attempt to appeal on western market because Yoko taro think western love muscular old man (i.e Kratos)

i honestly don't get this obsession the western had towards papa nier. you can argue whether papa nier is better or not all you want. but this is how Nier supposed to be whether you like it or not and i think they should leave it like that

Vermillion, same reason why japan like kid propergantist, its cause many gamers in japan are young people but in the west its mixed, its more of a culture thing really , but what OP said should still be respected, if people dont think its true they can discuss it instead of being a child and critize it , oh and the west Q can be taken both ways some say asia is east and eu and us is west BUT in EU where he is from from under the soviet time eu was split in east and west and since he is from romania(which was under soviet) he is indeed east, so people from the US need to brush up on their history ;), and in my honest opinion.. why couldt they make both? as some people say its not THAT ahrd to put new voices and a new char model in if ur a multibillion dollar company
