I legit don't understand why they trust people to continue playing after D - I don't know if it's genius or madness to hide some of the best content in the game like this. I'd argue this ending capstones the rest of the game, making it practically essential and yet... it's completely possible to just never find out it exists.

Not to ♥♥♥♥ on the ending. Ending is good. I just think it's too good for it to be tucked away like it is - this sort of thing took this from being a 3-star to 4-star game for me because it finally tied together a bunch of loose threads and themes it had been laying down.

I know completion rates on games are generally low, but at the time of writing (and assuming we can trust the achievement stats):

Got A ending: >20%
Got E ending: <5%

I am baffled. But yes, it's a good ending. I think Automata edges it out for me personally, but that might just be because I played it first (I'll never know now of course). Going to replay that soon I think.

Yeah it's very clear that it's new content. I'd say it was my favourite part of the game as well.

I going to guess the developers knew that the internet would do its thing.

Wow, there's a lot of new stuff to think about. I can see possible explanations to the things happening in the Automata ending, and even some connections to Drakengard.
Definitely worth the hours of playing.

Honestly I think it's pretty neat that it's some of the best content in the game, and yet totally missable. Most people would be expected to give up getting endings after ending B or C, and then even if you do go so far as to get D, the prospect of deleting your save is often enough to turn people off enough to not do it.

This makes the entire ending something of a reward for the most dedicated of players. Not at all unobtainable if you enjoy the game enough to sink the time into it, nothing hardcore or anything, but still easy to miss if you are impatient or weak willed. In an age of gaming increasingly dominated by "all unlockable content should be accessible to the most casual and unskilled players possible" types, genuine rewards like this are such a breath of fresh air and remind me of why I fell in love with gaming to being with.
