Fishing Sucks!

I am so frustrated with this stupid quest. So I am doing the Fisherman's Gambit quest. I need to get 10 sardines. This also needed for another quest that I am doing.

I go to fisherman port and one side where you need to go through a little cave opening that opens up to the other side of the beach, is where I got the shaman. For some reason I can catch all the shaman in the world without problems, yet when I go to the other side in hopes to pick up sardines. The mechanics are totally broken or something? I lay my line I wait for the lure to bop down and I pull back( I am using a controller), now if the fish goes right, I need to pull left on left analog stick. If it goes right, I need to pull left. If it's in front of me I need to pull back. Simple right. Yet for whatever frigging reason. The fish just keeps getting a away.

Yet when I go back to the side where I can get the shaman, I can get like dozens. If there a mechanic that basically makes it impossible to catch anything and I need to come back or something, I don't want to spend a year trying to catch sardines.

Not quite, keep an eye on the vibrations, the colour of the fish's 'stamina' bar or whatever you'd call it, and how its moving.

It is explained pretty poorly, but imagine the centre of your analog stick is your character, you want to put the actual analog stick opposite the fish from your character. It doesn't care what way the fish is moving, and pushing directly left or right is often too far (unless the fish is as far as it can possibly move)

You are basically just trying to pull the fish straight towards your character, not like some other games where you resist their movement.

So in short, you usually are just pulling straight back, or backwards to the right/backwards to the left.

On gamepad you can also just make sure you move the analog stick toward the strongest vibration.
I pulled most fish in without even looking at the screen.

Actually Weiss tells what you have to do on the first time you try to fish. Just put the analog stick towards the opposite direction of the fish, and wait for blue bar to deplete. I just finished the fisherman quest line that way.

They don't mark fishing spots - other than text hints - which is kind of a pain if you forgot.

It is marked as it is part of the main quest. That is what I somehow missed and was really pissed at fishing in the OG.

I couldn't remember if I just had a DERP moment or if it wasn't marked in the OG and they just said "the beach"

My experiance:

I managed to get the shaman fish and some junk without problems.
But any other fish gets away at once.

OK, after reading this I try to hold the stick always so that I make a line from the fish to my char ( I could hold it left and right but it almost got away in the middle.
Sometimes my finges start to hurt when it takes longer.

If it doesn´t work I just continuw to ignore fishing. I am not a fan of fishing (in reality or as mini game) anyway.

They actually fixed that quest tbf. There was no hint where to go in the original game unless you read the description for the quest, which was too difficult for the joystiq reviews editor at the time.

Dont do the fishing quest, you don't get anything out of it basically, and not mandatory for best ending

u can make lot of ez money with fishing for getting all weapons + side quest.

Is it possible that you are doing the fishing with a controller?
I had a terrible time with the controller and moved to KB and I never had any problems anymore. Its just super easy. If the bait goes down just hold S while also keeping an Eye on the fish. If it goes to the right hold D, if it goes left hold A.

The Bar on the bottom turns change color and stops if you are pressing the wrong buttons and gives you a generous amount of time to fix it.

for me i got no problem with a controller, u can't catch some of them because u don't have enough skills for fishing i got a bit trouble for my first 10 min fishing now it's ez

I strongly recommend you to find fishing guide on google

Fishing can be frustrating but the whole fisherman quest can be done in an hour once you grasp the fishing mechanic

Sardines are the easiest, you just need a proper bait and fish it at hidden beach.
If somehow your bait got eaten means that
- That's not a sardine but a higher level fish that you cant obtain currently
- You havent learn how to fish yet.

Also strongly recommend to use a controller that has vibration feature
Im using DS4 controller and the vibration helps to fish properly

Once you know how to fish properly, its almost impossible to lose a bait
