What voice language is everyone playing in?
I usually play Japanese games with Japanese voices since that's what sounds most natural for these games to me. However, I'm curious on what language everyone else is using for the voices. I played Automata in Japanese but I'm thinking of trying this one with the English voices.

I will always default to English dub unless there is something that bothers me enough about it to want to switch to Japanese. Turns out Replicant and Automata have fantastic dubs.

Nothing wrong with defaulting to Japanese if you're a native English speaker, but I always have a bit of a laugh when people seem to imply they are experiencing the truest and purest form of the game by playing it in Japanese, when they have no idea what is being said 99% of the time, and are reading the subtitles, which are taken directly from the English dub. Or that the Japanese voice acting is "better," despite the fact that they, again, have no idea what is being said, and don't understand Japanese enough to be able to tell if something is being said in a natural, flat or overacted manner.

It wouldn't surprise me if almost all of them tend to skip large chunks of the Japanese voice acting when talking to NPC's, because they can't tell when the lines of spoken dialogue are supposed to end. =P

I bet you haven't even listened to it. The eng dub only has some of the finest actors in the bissssssss. That's not to say the japanese version isn't good. Don't kill me, weeaboos.
Both are great but i played Automata in Japanese and i played this in Japanese.
After playing through the whole game and also seeing some Lets plays in English, some voices i liked more in English (Kaine) some i liked more in Japanese (Nier, Weiss) some are about the same (Emil).

Just listen to what you want and its fine no matter what you prefer.

You don't even know what this childish buzzword means, yet you're using it.

Curiously this strange pedantry about the word weeaboo always come from people who get called or can potentially get called weeaboos.

It's an insult It really doesn't need a strict meaning.

Ogami původně napsal:
"Weaaboo" has lost any and all meaning it ever had, years ago.
It was supposed to mock people obsessed with Japanese culture that thought anything from Japan was always superior to anything else in the world.

Nowadays its just " You like ANYTHING even remotely that comes from Japan?"
"♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ weeaboo!"

Yeah that's commonly how people use insults.

the r-word isn't usually used to insult actually mentally underdeveloped people. It's thrown around as a general insult for stupidity.

You can call me anything, if it isn't true it won't hurt me.

I normally play games like this in Japanese, but having played the original English release with the great voices Liam O'Brien and Laura Bailey contributed and how the original cast has returned, I just can't go to the Japanese voices at this point.

It's strange to think that I heavily prefer the Japanese voices for Automata, but the English voices here.

Being able to comprehend human emotions, intonations and nuances through speech has nothing to do with the faculty to understand the words. The only people who would lack this basic human skill are the ones afflicted with some form of autism or psychopaths. It has nothing to do with not wanting to play in Japanese.
If you're not able to tell that a character is happy, angry, annoyed, nonchalant, etc, whatever the language he/she is speaking, that either means that the actor is bad, or that you lack critical social skills. In this case, empathy.
I know that you're probably not concerned by this description though, which means that the argument was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to begin with.

Japanese voice acting is better because actors are better at conveying those emotions, therefore they are better at portraying a character.
The english cast does a much better job in this tho, although in general I agree asian VOs in general ham it up better during emotional lines.

I feel it’s not like Resident Evil or Metal Gear Solid series.
These games were written and voiced originally in English in the first place ;) You can add Bayonetta too.

Yep, exactly. ;)

Though I played them in both languages (some in Japanese if available), and both are pretty good in my opinion.

For example, everyone knows the story behind Metal Gear Solid English voice actors. But the Japanese one is also a classic, that Yakuza 7 has a tribute scene for it (the Japanese version of Yakuza 7 has the same voice actor as Japanese Solid Snake for the police character. Not sure English one though)

I honestly I think that's left up for debate. Different voice actors can portray it differently.
Much like how Western voice actors dominate the emotional depth in their Western market and the Japanese Voice actors dominate in the Japanese-style market.

If they get placed in each other's spot, results vary greatly depending on the audience because they are used to hearing it in a certain way.
i played the og nier replicant with japanese with eng subs already some years before. this time around i played remaster nier replicant with eng dub which i enjoyed as well.

Never said anything about not being able to understand whether someone is happy or sad or whatever. I said those who don't speak Japanese aren't going to be familiar enough with the language and the many differences of its speech patterns compared to English to accurately determine whether something is coming across as "forced" or "natural." You can convey sadness while also doing it in a forced, unnatural way. They're not mutually exclusive. Japanese has far more differences to English than just words.

Anyways, I'm not here to fight with anyone about which is better. If you like listening to Japanese over English, that's cool. I just pointed out how I found the "Japanese is ALWAYS better than English" mentality funny, coming from people who don't speak Japanese. *shrug*
