What voice language is everyone playing in?
I usually play Japanese games with Japanese voices since that's what sounds most natural for these games to me. However, I'm curious on what language everyone else is using for the voices. I played Automata in Japanese but I'm thinking of trying this one with the English voices.

My only complaint here is that English Yonah's voice feels a little too mature for the character, but otherwise everything else is on point. So yeah, English for me.
I dunno, she came off to me so far as trying to behave more mature than she is (going off just pre-timeskip).
This is one of the best English dubs I've ever heard. Better than Automata TBH. Weiss in particular really sells it. Good thing too, cause you hear him a LOT.

Listening to him complain about inane side quests almost makes me enjoy doing them.

English is better for me.
I wish they'd give us proper English subtitles for the Japanese dub.

AND uncensor some of the novel segments and put the even darker details back into them.
Probably got hit by their absurdly pointless ethics department that serves no other purpose than to ruin their own games.

Stop. Censoring. Games.

Just another job for talented modders to fix.

Given the circumstances that he is mostly supported by her brother (only family), she has a terminal illness that inflicts a lot of pain and mostly stays at home.

Her maturity is well warranted for her age, especially given if they went through a lot at an early age. This has been the case irl too, when young children mature too early because of bad experiences.

What was censored in the novel segments? Put it in spoiler tags if necessary, please.

Mainly the Kaine dream sequences.
In the Japanese script its much more graphic and basically sexual assault.
The bullies strip her down naked and mock her for her intersex genitals. They toned that down quiet a bit for the English translation.
I mean i understand WHY, sexual assault on a minor would not go over well with a lot of people in the west, no matter the context.

Thanks. I don't think art should be censored, but I get why they did it, too. Especially back in 2010.
English because Liam O’Brien is just too Good

I don't. They're fine with having you control a character who brutally slaughters hundreds, if not thousands of children over the course of the game, but *that's* where they draw the line?

Shame they censored Kaine's backstory. I was hoping people would have grown up a bit by now and stopped trying to play at being the morality police over others when it comes to completely fictional characters.

I guess I shouldn't hold out too much hope of them having the backbone to include Furiae and Leonard's proper backstories if they ever remake Drakengard. =/

The murder of children isn't very explicit and they are not actual children just their souls. in "monster" form.

The Kaine scene is more explicit in comparison It doesn't go around the subject matter it addresses it pretty directly.

I understand the need to censor this in the west. The moment something like this is in the game angry journalists with nothing better to report on will start writing hit pieces about the game for scenes like that. Just Recently Mass Effect got another one of those smut articles written by vice because of the "misuse" of an autistic character in the plot.

Can you blame the studio for wanting to avoid nonsense like that? American news media shows every day that they are not capable of dealing with topics like these in a mature manner. They never really have been as moral panic is ingrained in the culture.

I mean, we can interpret what happens however we want, but the game is very much trying to sell this idea to you that you are murdering children. It makes it clear that they act like children, have parents or other older figures watching over them for protection, they are even carrying around coloring books and school supplies as loot, and many of them don't even attack you. And when they die, they are *dead.* They don't revive themselves. They die, scream in pain, and spew blood out of their bodies that soaks the ground and splatters onto your character. Your character kills them, even when others who are being murdered are begging you to spare their children. We can "well actually" the technical details all we want, but can we at least agree the game is trying its hardest to sell the idea that you are committing this very brutal act?

Anyways, I don't really think gaming journalists have any significant impact on the sales of games. I mean, there was that article about the Daredevil achievement, which pretty much everyone laughed at, as they should have. If they want to write angry articles, let them. As far as I'm concerned, they don't get to dictate the morality of a *real* person (whether game dev, writer, or player) over completely fictional characters and what happens to them.

I just *despise* censorship and always roll my eyes when people attempt to justify it (not saying that's what you're doing, just to be clear). I'm sick of others trying to dictate what I should or should not be allowed to look at when it comes to complete and utter fiction, based on their own arbitrary views of morality and their unearned sense of self-righteousness.

I guess I'm not blaming the devs, per se, but moreso the ridiculousness that would potentially lead them to do such a thing.

While my comment was about gaming journos, because they are part of the moral policing culture right now I meant it in a more general sense. US has a history of this type of behavior. Whether it's gaming journalists, soccer moms, Jack Thompson, twitter mobs or overzealous Christians, their angry screaming has always caused media to be censored in the US and sometimes western releases even outside of US.

And it's not just US that has this problem. For example Germany, certain Middle-Eastern countries and China have specific elements pre-emptively censored for them. I really doubt the creators want to censor these things, but these countries make it difficult to sell there without censorship and so the companies that are distributing these entertainment products would rather censor their products than deal with the nonsense of these countries.

If you want to remove censorship you have to start from changing the culture that perpetuates censorship.
