Game not responding to controller?
Is anyone else having trouble getting the game to even respond to the controller half the time? I fixed this at first by just plugging and unpluggng but now even that doesnt work.

Controller flat out refuses to work for me. Tried my Elite v2, and old x360, and even a PS3 and PS4 controller. None worked.

I had to run steam in big picture mode, recognized my switch pro controller.

Disable steam input:
go into your library, right click the game, proprieties, controller, change enable Steam input or default settings into disable Steam input.

For my PS5 Controller linked with a usb clable worked.

BTW if you have trouble with the PS5 controller like I did. Go to Big Picture mode and then select the game then controller settings, view all templates, then select XBOX One controller then apply. The game isn't coded for PS5 controller support completely yet. Will have to do it that way if you want to play wireless.

Better post with device info.
In general, single wired controller to motherboard is preferred to avoid misc issues.

Make sure the controller is plugged in before you launch the game. If you launch the game then connect the controller it will not work.

Yeah i had to run it once in Big Picture mode to get it to pick up the controller, now it’s working fine (PS4 Dualshock)
Steam ♥♥♥♥♥ up the controllers. As soon as I am in the game I disconnect the controller and reconnect it and it works. Bottom right I always get the popup (on first load) that the controller has been configured. And by configured steam probably means "It's now unusable"

Complete opposite for me.

Recognizes my standard wired xbox360 controller no problem. But if you go to take a steam screen shot the mouse cursor pops up in the middle of the screen and you have to move it out the way every time.

I think the game sometimes detects non-controller devices as a controller. This is what I am seeing:

Case A
1. Connect wireless headset (via USB dongle)
2. Start the game
3. Connect the controller via USB
The controller does not work

Case B
1. Start the game
2. Connect the controller via USB
3. Connect wireless headset (via USB dongle)
Everything works as expected

Note: in both case I have to start the game before connecting the controller, otherwise the controller never works.

Might be worth disconnecting other USB devices to see if it helps.

Hi, maybe I'm too late but I also have this problem before.

You can try this method because it works fine with me:
- Go to Control Panel
- Click Hardware and Sound
- On Devices and Printers, click Device Manager
- Search for "Human Interface Devices"
- Disable all "HID-compliant game controller"

You can use the official layout.
