Get the stanford initiative in the workshop upgrades helps. Also be sure to have at least enough hospital beds to cover the max amount of workers located in your biggest facility + around 10 more I would say keeps the death amount minimal.
1. do you have DLS with supporting working conditions (each building overstaffed 25%)
2. are your infirmaries full, do you have all the infirmary upgrades, if you find they're full you need to build a 2nd infirmary per sector, injured crew die after a few days if they don't get hospitalized.
3. do you have workshop upgrades like the one the prevents and reduces power overloads, or the one that autorepairs damaged buildings
The main concept is, as the game is designed, accidents are unavoidable, even under perfect conditions they will happen, but if you have sufficient infirmaries or a hospital and trains you can avoid any deaths,
if you're ever unsure you can click the populate management button at the bottom and it will show you how many people are injured and how many are hospitalized, and if the injured is higher than the hospitalized number you need more medical buildings or upgrades to increase the capacity.
I do agree that it's not needed from a devs perspective but when you look at the forum posts here there is obviously a big group of people that just don't take it easy, read and enjoy the game but instead rush through it. For those players the devs could make it a little more friendly since there are allot of them. They don't need to but they could, calling it ridiculous is going a little far imo. But I highly doubt it's high on their prio list atm since there is still allot of work to do like bug fixing etc.
I had an infirmary up which did take care of the wounded, but of course did nothing for the two who dies instantly.
The infirmary was not full.
I did have the auto repair upgrade, and the building (I believe it was a storage yard) got automatically repaired afterwards.
It hasn't happened again since; so far they remain my only two casualties.
Hmm bloodless playthrough, I was just patting myself on the back for losing less than 100
