Id just check back in a week or 2.
Reload an earlier save or restart the chapter. It shouldn't take you 5 hours to get back to the same point and you'll have a chance to set things up more optimally.
your saves are here : %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\BulwarkStudios\Ixion\Saves
open the folder of your latest save, then edit the player.sav file
search in there (ctrl+f) look for the line that says "science": 0,
edit that to "science":30,
i'm not waiting on that as you can imagine.
chapter 2 allows you to upgrade it to churn out 3 science per 5 cycles, which prevents situations like this in the future.
so just keep 30 research points in handy, go do the main objective before the other planets.
Thank you for this savegame edit typ... Without this I would now need to restart...
Whenever you can, unlock the upgrades to the tech lab. The first upgrade changes you from 1 research per 30 cycles to 3 research per 5 cycles which is an insane jump from having pretty much useless research output. I really wish the game explained that 'mandatory' upgrade better as I hadn't even realized that the research building even gave research or could even be upgraded until chapter 2.
But how do you upgrade the tech lab?
You have to research everthing in tier 1 first to unlock upgrades for other buildings. This makes all of the research at the start even more scarce than it already is. You pretty much need to distribute every science point perfectly without any mistakes or you get softlocked. I think you also need an upgrade for the science ship to visit gas giants. In other words: After completing tier 1 research there are around 90 science points you cannot spend. If you do you have to restart. This must be an oversight from the devs as its just bad game design
Feels research caters to a golden path which makes the tree really be a quagmire of bad choices.
What program are you using to modify the save? I opened it in a text file editor and i just get a bunch of null all over the screen.
