HDR Monitor = Game unplayable.
This game doesn't seem to have HDR support properly implemented or something to that effect. On my 32:9 HDR monitor, the game is almost entirely black with light areas being incredibly bright. So, it's like it's trying to be HDR but the parameters are set to way too high resulting in the extremes of gamma becoming the only gamma. Unfortunately until the HDR situation is fixed or I can disable the games "HDR support(?)" I'll not be able to play this :(

Hopefully when the main game comes out this will be addressed and fixed, but I'm definitely going to wait until after to release to make sure before grabbing this.

Search is your friend. HDR been discussed lots already.

For ref, if on Win 10 (no idea if same in 11), go to Settings > Display , make sure the correct display is selected at the top if you have more than one, and under 'Windows HD Colour' turn off 'Use HDR'.

Game should work fine then, although you might need to tweak in game settings if you changed anything.

Just remember to turn HDR back on if you want to use it elsewhere.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that I was aware of that, my bad. The point I'm making is that I don't want to have to turn HDR on and off constantly. The game needs to have integrated handling, is what I'm trying to get at.

Hopefully will get fixed for release, the demo is as far as I know early code, possibly even rushed out for the festival.

Only comment I've seen from the devs (actually one of the mods on their Discord), was this one 'Turn off HDR, and it should be alright. Seems it's not fully supported as of yet - others had the same issue you have'

Bold bit my emphasis.

Guess it's just a case of watch this space when we next get a updated demo, or the released version, if the demo doesn't come back after Monday.

For ref, I want HDR as well, as I've got a Ultrawide HDR display.

Yeah, I figured this would be the case when I saw the game swap between unplayable and playable when dragging the game window from my super ultra wide HDR to just my ultra wide non HDR monitors. So I guess I'm just going to have to wait and see if the Devs fix it for native support at launch.

Turning up the gamma in settings fixed it for me

Hmm I'll try that, maybe it works?

It does not.

Yeah, confirmed, didn't work.

Release is around the corner, anyone know if the devs have fixed this glaring oversight?

You could try asking on the discord. Questions tend to get answers from what I've always been able to tell. Even my silly little (but dam important to me) question of being able to rename our ships got an answer.
It was a 'no' :steamsad:.

I can't claim to know a lot about screens, but the FAQ contained these two bits that might be close to an answer:
10) Is 4K supported?
4K will be supported shortly after the full release.

11) Is Ultrawide supported?
Ultrawide was partially supported during the demo and will undergo further polish before full release.

Other than that all I know for sure is that when they re-released the demo back in August I didn't see anyone posting (either here or the discord) about the sort of problem posted about here, or at least not about something like this still being a problem.

There was also a point where they delayed the release by about a month for extra polish, so if they did miss it then hopefully that means there's a chance they got it now.

Here's hoping something in the above helps answer your question.

Hmmm, thanks. That's not definitive, so I guess I'll just have to wait for release to see if it is addressed and someone can confirm. It's definitely a deal breaker. If the HDR and ultra wide is not properly supported then definitely not grabbing this one.

Can someone let me know if this game now actually supports 32:9 HDR displays at 5120x1440?

Having played the demo on a Samsung G9 Neo, I found that the game looked and felt alright, but please bare in mind this was my experience on an older build (during the next fest event on steam) and as such I can't be sure on the optimisation with the released version due to the fact I haven't bought it yet (waiting for payday).

Yeah, I'm also holding off on getting this until I can confirm if the release version supports my setup. Probably just get DF instead as I know that one works!

Turn off auto HDR with Win+Alt+B, with the game closed. This happens to me with some games that do not support HDR natively, but usually only after alt tabbing out, or closing the game my entire desktop will be washed out/dark. Toggling auto-hdr usually resolves that issue.

Samsung G9 Neo as well.
