I am not able to see the game when I launch it, not even see the mouse.

If you have black screen when launching the game you can try to remove ddraw.dll and d3d9.dll to force the game to launch without DXWnd

how do you remove that? I don't know much about code.

I deleted these and the program no longer runs at all. I restored them for now.

I get black screen even through all of the troubleshooting. I have downloaded all the recommended drivers and still nothing but black screen whether in compatibility mode or as administrator.

I had bought the game as part of a bundle so I am going to try and download a different game and see if that one works without all of the troubleshooting.

Problems? Can't even get past the opening screen when the error message that "game" has stopped working...not "game.exe". Tried all the listed "fixes" including uninstall/reinstall seversl times...nothing works. Although before this DXWND thing was added it worked perfectly fine in Steam.

Maybe I'll just play it on one of my old PC's with a disc drive...I know the exe files are on the disc version.

Very disappointed.

I deleted the two files d3d9.dll and ddraw.dll and used the compatibility assistant with "Win XP SP3" option.
Now I am able to start the game in fullscreen mode and everything works fine for now.

OS: Win 10 64Bit (Version 1607)

This fixed it for me. I did not have to delete the d3d9.dll but I am having an issue with mouse input, my mouse seems to have some kidn of conflict with this and some of the other older sherlock games.

press alt+space, select "maximize", skip movies, repeat alt+space, select "maximize"

[Trouble Ahead]

following worked for me on Win10 x64:

1. Download and intall the game
2. go to the steam/mystery of the mummy installation folder and look for the folder DXWind-v2_03_36_build
3. open dxwnd, the game will show, right click and "modify"
4. look in both 'path' and 'launch' for the game.exe and select it for each option
5. then use what puhgee has advised earlier:
in dxwnd go to "input" section and check following: "keep cursor fixed" , "keep cursor within window", "force cursor clipping", "DirectInput Hooking with Initial coords 50,50"
6. As puhgee stated this will cause your mouse to be inverted, but game runs fine, if you want to fix this issue download Mouse Inverter: https://www.sendspace.com/file/zjuwfv (honestly it's a bit more glitchy this way than without the mouse inverter but it will still work)
7. if you wish, in the 'main' option of dxwnd uncheck the box for "run in window" and for me it worked fullscreen this way...

The game does not work. I tried all the proposed options - nothing helps. The mouse is broken in Windows 10, I see black screen in Windows 7 and the game crashes at start when running in "Beta mode without DxWind"
