My solution to the black screen
So I had the same issue a lot of people are having: a black screen upon trying to boot this game up. I cut and pasted the ddraw.dll & d3d9.dll files to my desktop, went to the Compatibility tab in the properties for the Game.exe, checked the boxes for Run as Admin & Run in 640 x 480 mode, and also checked the option to run the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode. It's now running smoothly. If that changes, I'll post again. Hope this helps someone besides me.

I tried. That didn't work. I'll try in one of the earlier Windows compatibility modes.

I tried going back to earlier versions of Windows, even on way back as Windows 98 (since I think that's one of the Windows versions the game was originally compatible with). That didn't help.

I ensure that I'm running game.exe in windows XP SP3 compat mode. This seems to fix things on my end.
