You have remote connectors so the entire system of chained together storage takes up a lot of space. Put down a storage that has a remote connector color assigned to it, and then make the big T of 3 remote connectors + combiner + 3x1 space transfer tubes. Then you can stash the storage anywhere in the factory so it's out of the way.
At some point it becomes a minigame of trying to fit as many combiners as you need into a smaller building, so you can try different things depending on how much room you have and what you need to build around. Or what you think looks neato, that matters too.
Edit: one last thing, if you click on a storage you can assign it to a color remote transfer. Only one storage can be assigned to a color per building, but that will remove the need for the transfer tubes + remote connectors attached to the storage.
If you want to assign multiple storage a color than you need to do that for the 2nd and beyond, or attach them to the main colored storage.
