Fantástica VN. 10/10

En unas 10 horas lo tienes todo. Una gran ambientación, un muy buen guión, un arte espectacular, su buena dosis de drama y sobretodo unos personajes extraordinarios como son Sam y Michelle junto a los demás. Su historia en el Hong Kong de 1986 es preciosa.

Llevaba un año con la mosca detrás de la oreja por este juego, y por fin pude comprarlo por la rebaja del primer aniversario! A Summer's End - Hong Kong 1986 es una novela visual muy bien llevada y con una ambientación de la leche. Doy gracias a que por fin tengamos una VN sobre mujeres adultas teniendo sus struggles sobre la orientación sexual, la posición social que se tiene sobre la mujer y las relaciones familiares con el tema de la deshonra, la culpabilidad de la muerte de un familiar.... y donde una se puede identificar como ha sido en mi caso. Necesitamos más VN así, muchísimas gracias a Oracle and Bone por este juego tan espectacular y tan disfrutable desde principio a fin.

Me ha encantado, la historia esta muy bien contada y la musica es un todo un acierto¡¡. Se hace corto y engancha. Lo recomiendo sin dudas.

I’m in no way a VN expert, so don’t expect anything in-depth. To me, it’s one of those games that you come across randomly, and then it ends up in your cart before you’re even done reading through the store description.

Oh boy, it really does. A Summer’s End must be one of the few games that capture the ’80s Asian aesthetics right without reducing it to yet another flimsy retrowave diorama. There are some traits of the latter, especially in the soundtrack, but the overall experience is way more authentic and never feels overblown. As a city pop addict, I was extremely pleased with the stylistic choices made in the game. It’s just the right kind of nostalgic, flashy, and neon.

The plot is... Well, quoting one of the heroines, it’s not bad. The main cast is likeable enough to make the story of an unexpected relationship engaging from the get-go, and there’s a small bunch of supporting characters to keep things fresh both visually and narratively all the way through. While it never reaches the highest emotional heights and some dialogues walk dangerously close to the fan-fiction territory *cough* Adult Patch *cough*, I found myself enjoying most of it. There’s something appealing in how simple the story is, with its relaxed pacing and occasional clever nods to the decade’s culture.

My only real gripe would be the lack of ambient sounds. With every scenery change, it becomes more and more apparent that the in-game Hong Kong is a surprisingly silent place. There are no people talking on the streets, no cars stuck in the traffic, no humming from the office air conditioner — nothing at all. Of course, the music is always there to set the right mood, but it just doesn’t cut it. Thanks to the outstanding art, every location is a character of its own, and adding some background noise here and there could have really helped bring them to life.

All in all, A Summer’s End is a nice little journey worth taking. Beautiful and romantic, it hits enough right notes in terms of presentation and basic storytelling to give you a smooth ride for an evening or two. Chances are you’ll forget all about its shortfalls by the time it’s over — and savor the bittersweet feeling the epilogue leaves you with. Much like when summer actually ends.

I was not disappointed.

I'm really glad I followed my instincts and got this gem without thinking twice.

This is a short (about 7 hours) but well written story about Michelle and Sam, two women living in completely different worlds inside Hong Kong, but that are able to meet by some twist of fate. There's a realistic setting behind their love story, putting emphasis on how their relationship could be seen by the 80's society around them, but never getting too dark or dense about it. The focus is on their romance.

The art style is really nice, as you can see from the store screenshots, but the music doesn't lag behind at all. It really helps to bring out that "I was there" feeling that many people get when they're listening to City Pop or Vaporwave.

If you're looking for an adult, but beautifully depicted love story with charismatic characters, you'll feel more than satisfied with this game.
If you want to feel like you've time travelled to your coveted 80's with an oriental taste, the people at Oracle and Bone have made a great work to make you happy.
But, if you're just looking for some lesbian fanservice CGs, this may be a tad different from what you're expecting. (The erotic CGs are great, though!)

I saw a post on Twitter about this game, and I thought I would give it a go. And I'm glad I did!
The music, the aesthetic, the characters, the plot.... I loved everything!!! The game is a 10/10, I'm so glad I bought it :) I'm so glad the game comes with a gallery, because there are some art pieces that are truly beautiful.

Es muy complicado encontrar novelas visuales wlw como esta que se centren en la historia y que no sean exclusivamente "para público masculino" (ugh). Estoy demasiado feliz de haberla descubierto <3
Por la forma en la que está narrada, por el arte y la música, fácilmente se convierte en mi novela visual favorita.
