I started the game two days ago and it worked fine. Now it freezes when I want to go in the menu. Disable Steam overlay didn´t work!

Hello. I am new to Steam, at least in using it and today I just download this game, which I love for reminding me Lucas Arts old school ambience. But unfortunately I had to recur to Alt+F4 to leave the game screan. Is there any other way to better interact with the game and save all the path made? It is really boring if I have to repeat the steps all over. Thanks for the time....
