So I managed to marry Princess Mihri and I have the golden monkeys.

When I talk to the other king he's only impressed by the monkeys and not by the fact that I snatched away the beautiful princess.

Is that intended? I expected this to be the ultimate humiliation...

Its intended. If you Jail/execute the Foreign Diplomat, then forgive him, he will inform you that your rival has an obession with monkeys in little suits. That's how I learned about the Monkey Suit.
