Many people seem to forget that Walter Jones chose being the black ranger lol. I dunno about Trini's actress regarding the decision, but Walter changed roles when they were looking for actors.
The race baiting nonsense is tiresome.
I doubt most kids noticed or cared..
it was fun watching the tom gal kick ass. and the nerd was fun as well.
It was a well versed show, even if it was much like every teen drama, only mixed with martial arts.
It was Genius to mis-mash both into one, and I'm sure all the anime bootleg's at the time were inspiring this idea as well.
Also, black dude being black ranger was a production coincidence. Old, tired take.
Walter Jones himself says Zack was always meant to be Jason's black best friend. Yeah, dumb trendy trope at the time.
However, he was originally meant to be the Blue Ranger. He was changed to the Black Ranger to line up better with the Sentai footage in which Black was the second in command and (don't quote me on this one) best friend of Geki.
That makes Much more sense . I figured there would have to be a adjustment due to the familiar bonds and connected footage.
I can't see too many times where they could break a color format of the cast..
well the censorship is due to region . not just plot . a lot of stuff in the Sentai show would not fly in USA EU GR ect..
Kung Pow comes to mind
Yep and they used the aging process along side "Time Travel" plots to continue making bank.. Kind of like DBZ GT did.
Don't waste breath. OP WANTS to be offended, they'll be offended. Just block them, pray you get matched with them so you can beat their ass, and leave them whine and cry in their own piss and squalor.
There's no saving people who want to retroactively be offended by things.
They didn't even watch MMPR, because it wasn't "Social justice" back then. It was wholesome family content. What OP is doing is the real "Social justice" nonsense.
It's kind of like those weebs who watch a few episodes of SAO and are like "WOW I CAN SPEAK JAPANESE NOW, DESU-NE KAWAII GANGURO DAISUKE!" but then get offended when someone calls them out for being full of crap.
People can't be allowed to enjoy things anymore. No, if one person doesn't like it it can't be enjoyed for what it is, or even was. No, instead we have to change everything to be as much of a gray paste as a Putty so as to not offend the "Special snowflakes" that piss and moan about shows from the 90's.
The funny thing is, I 100% believe that OP is actually closet racist now, because since he brought up the "Social justice snowflakes" bit, because the original cast was a range of races and genders instead of all being japanese people.
So because it had a multitude of races in it, it's "Social justice"?
I'm confused. What about the original MMPR was "Social justice" based because from what I've seen (and yes, I've rewatched it recently) it was more just cheesy godzilla-flick style entertainment with some slapstick and spiderman-style one liners.
There's no "OH GOD I'M SO SPECIAL AND YOU AREN'T" or even "Everyone is a ranger" like they did with star wars.
Like REALLY think about it. It's a show about fighting people in skin-tight suits and giant robots fighting giant crabs and robots and giant crab robots.;
How does that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ equate to "Ruining" something? They took a "Family friendly with hints of edge" and removed the "edgey teen angst" from the japanese rangers series, and made it more relatable to people in the region it was going to be viewed.
Honestly, humanity just makes me wish the cold war went nuclear sometimes so we could have all just avoided having to deal with idiots like OP. Lol
And for you OP:
Yes, The japanese verison has it's merits. Don't get me wrong. But they're just two different shows using the same base, with permission FROM the original creators. That's why the combat footage is the same.
Japan has a much more lax view on what's "Acceptable" (Ahem, 13 year olds being "Of age"? Disgusting.) but also because there's so many more nuances than "Port a show and dub it", especially for the time, it created a completely new show with lovable characters and plots that grew and became it's own unique thing.
I think the real question is, since the two versions are so different, why are you comparing them as if it's detracting from the japanese version? If you want to watch that, go watch that. If you're young enough to remember MMPR, you're old enough to go buy the damn DVD set now.
The issue isn't the show, it's people like OP trying to make everything "Black and white" and pretending like there wasn't a metric ton of nuances and hoops that had to be jumped through, money spent, testing the boundries of what could and could not be shown at the time, ect.
I see your Kamen Rider and raise you one Big Bad Beetleborgs.
I think you need to calm down too lol.
