I remember being assaulted by a few veteran 3 Leopard 2s in a meeting engagement and was having a tough time with them as I don't really have that many good Anti tanks and my tanks simply weren't up to par. After going through great effort to destroy them a couple of times, I noticed that the AI at some point just stopped sending them out. I also noticed after several wipes, the enemy also seemed to wind down, not sending as much as they should to contest the points.
Same thing goes for artillery. Wipe them once or twice and the AI at some point can't call em in anymore.
That being said, I wouldn't recommend grinding the enemies. They seem to have enough to last for the phase/stage. I am also not sure if loses in one stage affects another.
