How does this compare to WARNO ( which I regret buying )

this game is pure SP (like Armored Brigade) and more abstracted than WARNO. You control not individual units but platoons of 2-4 units, infantry is glued to IFVs (but motorized infantry that can act apart of their transport is planned in roadmap), vehicles 'phase' through buldings, while urban area act is LOS limiter. Game also have lesser pace than WARNO (adequate units speed for example). You have NO RIDICULOUS FUEL MECHANICS THANK GOD. You also can tweak parameters as damage, accuracy, AoE, speed in-game before playing operation from 0.5x to 1.5x.
Overall, it is simpler, less complex and more abstracted game with some interesting solutions.
Ah and also my own +1000 points to this game -- it have historically accurate vehicles models since release.

The warno is a step down from WEE-WAB-WRD series in gameplay wise, worse UI, resupply is crap, microextensive.

Buy this game if you are a single player lover!

Thanks. Bought it and am leaning / enjoying. ( BTW I agree Armored Brigade is a Gem )

I'd separate WRD from the first two, as the SP campaigns in that game were horrific, with the ability to invade from the northern beaches broken in one of the the silly patches brought out for MP. WAB, was the best in my book, as WEE was a little too puzzle-based than strategy for me. Best Eugen game was their first AAA title, "Act of Aggression: Act of War" and the EP "AoA: High Treason" upping the graphical demands, with a full-fledged SP Campaign with cinematics, and blisteringly difficult even on Easy even back then.
Only selling point for WRD, and it's worst feature was the naval combat. Promo videos made it look great, which it wasn't, with ammo exhausted within seconds and a cheating AI (which sums up the entire game).

Look forward to picking this up when the price is more reasonable for we in the older set with little in the way of disposable incomes (oh, those were the days).

Time is absolute crap. I had to use in-game cheats to bridge the time. I really don't have 10 hands at once.

Something that I always wondered at the time when Steel Panther was the thing, that why not utilize even more the view level for the command structure.
As if you would be looking a country size map, you would be issuing commands only to divisions. When you dive in to a province size area, you are issuing commands to brigades and then step down you issue commands to battalion and then to company, eventually leading that in the lowest level you are issuing commands to squads or even maybe to fire team.

And when the original R.U.S.E was revealed, its camera system was like "Finally" moment that someone would utilize it to dynamically move between these different levels.
Didn't happen. When the W:EE got revealed, it was again "Now they get it" but no...

It could be interesting approach where the level would define your access to information.
As currently all the games are really about "God like commander" that see and hear everything. Like a general that is commanding army groups but same time hand holding the individual soldier in front to heal the wounded next to him. Time is limited, and perspectives gets easily wasted.

Why it could be interesting in multiplayer where you must cooperate with the other players by their limited information. So players choose a player among themselves to specific ranks (staff sergeant, lieutenant, colonel etc). Their decision who is where. And those players are limited to proper actions available for them, and information.
So colonel commanding brigade doesn't even see information from platoon level, lowest is like company level symbol and basic information. While the player as captain would see a lot more, and have basic information down to squad level. And then player as lieutenant would see down to individual soldier level.

Today when the VoIP is the key for many things, it would be similar that information isn't shared in game to everyone. So players need to organize and trust others, as they don't even see what another player is doing than in general idea if informed by the higher level player. So true Fog Of War.

These zooming graphics engines could very well make that dynamic for the individual single player. When player zoom in, they restrict their information to given area but more detailed. To get up they get broader picture but far less details.

W:EE partially did it, but zooming out made all symbols stacked badly. What W:ALB fixed by stacking them more nicely.

But it took again long time that new RTS games like Armored Brigade to implement the time delays for issuing commands and reacting to them. So when player spots something sudden, it can take 2 minutes before the command reaches the unit to follow that command.

We have come long way graphically from original Close Combat in 1996 and Steel Panther from 1995.
But IMHO not really utilized the hardware resources and means to make better player experience to avoid too much micromanagement by utilizing proper AI, but then not having too restricted access by just limiting "You can only command platoons".

Edit: Forgot that this is what makes such games like Age of Empires or Transport Tycoon so fun, that you can play with a friends that take separate tasks in the same team. So while one is doing offensive with military troops, one is focusing to maintaining the town and maximizing resources, and another is tasked for defenses.

That kind cooperation is nice. And that was with the W:EE IIRC:
