Tips for using recon units?
I started doing the first operation missions and got that one recon unit and tried scouting with it, but it seems like itll take massive damage every time I discover something unless I pull it out almost immediately when something gets noticed. Its just very hard to recon, I wish I could put them in a stance where once something was detected they would highspeed it away ASAP without me having to baby them, and even then they may take like 70% damage every time anyway... I feel like I might be missing something

Put them on hold fire so they don't give themselves away by shooting. Most scout units will have higher vision ranges than the enemy units and should be able to detect enemy units without being seen themselves if you do this. But you need to make sure to still keep your distance. The moment you spot an enemy, don't get any closer. Also be aware of the sightlines and try to keep them open between your scouts and where you suspect the enemies to be so you don't accidentally cross a tree line and end up right in the face of an enemy unit. Some scout units are also just inherently better suited to the role. NATO seems to have the better scouts in general.

OHHH, the hold fire point is a great point, I didnt even consider that. I also appreciate the other points. Thank you!

Also, it's almost always smart to set up recon as observation posts (in forests mostly), where they'd stay unseen when enemies approach, but will spot the approaching forces for your other units that then will be able to utilize their full range.

Even scout require a bit of time to properly spot and identify an enemy unit. NATO scouts have close to 3000 m visual range compared to like 1000 meters of tanks. So just keep your distance and you'll achieve great things.

There is no need to achieve any success, but they will do a normal exploration. With a sniper plus 5-7 people who can crawl and hide and run into the forest. And on the walkie-talkie through the satellite they will mark enemy objects. Under the infantry, "reasonable infantry" was meant. And not 3 jeeps with beginners.

Hi, i prefer skirmish mode to explore this, let the Comp Comrade attack nearest troops and flank in a wide range, with light scouts pushing from tree to tree with little steps in hold fire mode, they can go really near to enemy. watch out for good positions with cover, try it. Then arty on enemy and attack with main troops, when Enemy is in panic. Heavy scout troops always got fire in short time, when discovered, take them back quickly behind buildings, in wooden area and push hold fire. then you have a chance to survice and heal them. Same if you use normal Troops in Hold Fire Mode to scout. They will discored fast, you need to get back fast or they will die.

I welcome reconnaissance in force. But after that, there is absolutely nowhere to hide. The buildings are transparent and there are no depressions on the ground. You just need to introduce elements from other games into the game. Such as " Commandos " , " Zomboid " , " War Room " and Dayz . It will be bold. Very brave .

Also, get the reconnaissance Tac Aid whenever you can afford to. Especially if you're in the offensive.

It is incredibly useful for spotting for your artillery, and your allied AI's if you have one. Keep in mind too that the AI has perfect memory, so they will often keep sniping accurately with their artillery at stuff even if you yourself forgot where they are after the aid runs out.

It can also help you plan out the placement of your reccy to avoid having them be spotted in support of an upcoming attack.

You can also use it to snipe tanks and AA with ATGM carriers and gunships.

I would also add, don't underestimate recon helicopters. They are godlike when microed properly, especially in low visibility maps, you can do some borderline cheesy wipes with them and a stack of two to three gunships, add a platoon or two of tanks to this combo for EZ mode.
