Is there an easier way to split forces?
so I push all my forces to one side to defend but then when I get engaged on both sides I have to race against the clock and try to click on some to move to that side. It's not optimal, given that they move all blobbed together.

Other than that, I'm having a blast with this game!

Clicking wall then O mark selects everything on wall and you can link ( a curved arrow appears),the selection to any wall you want them to go.

Clicking wall you see symbols ( like tiny sword, flute, cannon ect), clicking any symbol selects just that type on the wall , you can then move them with usual methods.

Also the above method makes it easy to pick single unit from said group, just highlight the group, then select one and move em as usual.

How I do it is : I keep both side walls swarmed, then have reserve units in inner walls I move when needed, there are also units ( such as missionary), that boost units over time, or laborer that gets stronger every time you play labor card, it's good idea to keep them in the inner groups so they can grow before they go front.

Remember you can use the click wall-> click symbol to select group to get rid of useless units as well, such as select all militia and send them to front wall if you do not need em and have em die.

You shouldn't be keeping all of your forces on 1 side after the first five or so waves.

If that was the case then cards, buildings etc... that boost move speed, ie- being able to quickly saturate one side for certain waves, really have no use as your units would be constantly anchored to one side or the other. Not to say that I don't deploy units to both sides because I do. But in some cases, being able to split one side in half so you can cover down on a side that got whooped up on real bad can be a viable strategy, though the micro management side of it can be near impossible by the way the units blob together.

I think some sort of grouping icons that hover over the tower would be a nice option, whether they be by unit type or ranged melee etc...

If you did not want an answer, don't post a question. "I am gonna put them all on one side because a few very bad usage cards support this".

Good luck when you try the upper level pollutions, if you even unlock them.

Ah ok nice. That's what I was looking for, some sort of way to divide the units. Must have overlooked it. thanks!

I would love it if the game had a Split Units Evenly to opposite walls button. 🔘
Downside of using such a button is units traveling time leaves you under-defended.

I agree but that would be the gamble of doing that action. It sure would make speed related cards and buildings more important.

From the perspective of pollution 20 no pause Shaman, on the Forest:

Optimal play is to leave units grouped until the end of wave 7, not wave 5, at which point you split them. For waves 8 and above, both walls need to be evenly defended.

Splitting units is a total pain and I hate doing it. You have to manually click on one unit at a time, then click the tiny movement arrow, once for each unit you want moved. If you have a blob of 16+ units at the end of wave 7, you either have to abuse unpause/repause to move them quickly, or if you're playing no-pause, start the movements before the end of wave 7, so you're done by the time wave 8 begins.

And yes, the game badly needs a split units function. Or at least, the ability to select and deselect units into control groups like Starcraft 2.

Incidentally, the movement speed cards are, if I'm not mistaken, exclusively available to the General. And they are meant to synergize with the "when you pass this building" cards. The idea is you walk back and forth past the same building over and over and collect massive rewards.

in addition to when you pass this buildings cards, move speed is VERY helpful to lancers (and I expect cataphrans), also if a wall gets busted, your rear rank dudes retreat to the next wall, more speed means they are less likely to get killed in transit.
