Can My Wife And I Have a Private Lobby?
As the Title suggests, I'm wondering if I can have a private 2-player lobby with just me and my Wife. Thank you.

The minimum is 4 players for private lobby on dedicated servers, but you can create a group, join an online game, turn off social features, and do your own thing.

So I just purchased and refunded this game as a gift for my wife and even mentioned that in the refund notes at 4:13PM yesterday which is just a little over an hour before this post which is crazy odd timing lol!

I read the initial update "0.2.2.1073" which is quoted here "Added dedicated private server matchmaking option to group chase - Requires 4 players to launch dedicated private server - If a group is under 4 players, a private match will automatically be created if no match is found within 45 seconds".

I assumed the above meant just with the players invited to that private lobby only and not to be filled with other random players since it is Private Dedicated Server which requires invites to have players join. It doesn't really specify that it will try to fill the rest of the Private Server with non-private players from the public matchmaking lobby unless I misread this.

I have setup many Private Dedicated Servers for games like "7 Days to Die", "Enshrouded", etc. and they do not allow players to join outside of just friends per the perimeters. I know that your team host these servers and are limited by the amount you can allocate but for clarification, the Private Servers that are not completely filled by friends will be added to the public matchmaking lobby to be filled with random players for the rest of the remaining slots within the desired time, correct?

Also, if this is the case, is there an option to kick these players after the Private Match has started since I would be Host?

If you are in a group above 4 and you activate the private server function, you will only be in your own group of 4.

If you are below 4, it will matchmake normally, but if it cannot find any game in a set amount of time (we increased the timer to 180s now) it will launch its own private server even if you are in a smaller group than 4 after trying to matchmake in a public server.

Thank you for your response! That answered my question. Just FYI, I love this game so far and all of the updates you all have released. Cannot wait to see what your team comes out with next!

I will repurchase the game for my wife once there is a more private option for just two. She is not comfortable playing with others or I would have kept it.

I won't purchase until it has a 2 player choice, too, and I think many others are in the same boat.

All outbrk matches are ran on powerful dedicated servers that we pay for, it cost us the same per match if there are 2 or 12 players in a game. Allowing players to start their own dedicated server just to play with one other player would run the cost of our server infrastructure way too much. We're a very very small company.

I get that. I wish I had the right answer. It would seem that there's going to be a constant back and forth between the community (your customers), and reality, which is that the servers are expensive and it's not feasible to just purchase an infinite amount of them.

Honestly, I don't know the solution... I appreciate that you're trying though.

We can only be transparent on the "why" it is how it is :)
Will there eventually be an option to host LAN matches with our own local network or provide us a Dedicated Server tool similar to other games within the Steam Tools library?

This would alleviate increased cost of upkeep and expansion of your own servers and allow players to take some of the load off. Having the ability to host LAN would also open up offline single-player which would kill two birds with one stone.

Forgive my lack of knowledge on game development and how you host these servers in advance.

At some point in the future would there be a way to set up a peer to peer way to play with groups less than 4 people?

P2P and LAN options are currently not planned.
im going to make u go bankrupt if you dont it ♥♥♥♥♥
By and large, I've found the Outbrk community to be super chill and laid back at worst and outright welcoming and inviting at best.

So, those who want a private experience? I totally get it, but give it a spin. I've not met a rotten nerd just yet.

No P2P for 2 players that's a pity, can't understand why, but that is your business decision I guess. I will remove it from my wish list. Thanks anyway and good luck with your game.
