Fish feedback
Started a new playtrough after a long break from the game and there is one thing really bugging me. (aside from the lack of reliable ingame information about most mechanics. I know the wiki exists but its pretty "light" on useful information)
I've seen a Dev answering in the forums so i guess someone in charge might read this.

Without further ado, here are some ideas:
Fishing becomes pretty useless for money after early game even after completing the "questline" for the fishing rods and cycling a bunch of crab pots.

Unlike farming, there is no "fishing guild" to keep you occupied and frankly, I don't think another token system for a side activity would make a great addition to the gameplay loop.

Thats why I thought, why don't weave it into other mechanics?

The first obvious thing that came to mind is fish soup. Its pretty weird that there is nothing like that ingame right now. Make it the early option besides tomato soup and make it a rare ingredient for late soup orders. To keep it simple, cutting any fish with the knife or automation will turn it into "chopped fish". To keep it balanced, simple fish will have a 50% weight decrease when cut into meat. with a better weight multiplier according to quality. (i.e. shark gives more meat than cod)

The second thing is a new type of gem. Its pearls and they are guaranteed from chopping up clams, a new fish about as rare as monkfish. Pearls will fetch a high price because of their origin and behave like other gems.
IF you want to spice things up, then make pearls non compatible with compressors but in turn make clams less rare because of the "waste" pearls that are too small for jewelry orders.

Now to the automation part:
A new midgame T2 building that can generate a stead supply of random fish.
The "Fishcatcher" is a 3 block high machine similar to a drill.
The top part will spit out the fish (preferrably on a conveyor), the middle part is for the water supply on the back and the bottom part needs to be placed in water like a crab pot.
The machine works with a speed of 75% compared to the crab pot (i know these aren't on a timer but I don't know the percentages behind those, Maybe make them 1 per 45 seconds)
Quality of the catch is related to pressure with T3 being able to catch all fish while above 330% water pressure.

Well, thats pretty much it. Alternatively it would be funny to have a small fishing trawler vehicle instead of the fishcatcher machine but idk about map and engine limitations.

i feel you, I never even bother with fish when starting a new game cause of how tedious it is for little money. I feel like they should do more to add to it or give it something exclusive to make it worth it.

I'm directly opposed to that. For me fishing is my early game income. I find panning way more tedious than fishing, so i only pan a few ore chunk to buy the first fishing rod.
Then i fish until i got the tier 8 master fishing rod.
Selling all the fish got me to about 3500 coins, which is enough for a simple mining rig.
After that, i never touch the fishing rods again :D

Same here, I started a new file and did like one pan of dirt manually which was enough to get the first rod, and maybe half an hour or so later I'd hit tier 8 and had plenty of money to go straight to automating everything right out of the gate.

Same here, fishing until have the tier 8 pole, and had enough money to setup a little mining system. I used my pickaxe to go down the mining spot and i have good size ores.

Next step is to have enough iron to put several T1 drills, and enough money to have bunch of sorters.

The last thing we need is to be forced to do something we hate. I hate farming yet here I am once again forced to do it. I had to farm growing up last thing I want to do is play it in a game. Never liked fishing irl or game. That said they did incorporate it you need to fish for the final quest. BTW you can automate fishing. It's how I got the good rod in my last play through.
