Permanent? hang when emptying very full ore pan
I've been trying to pour out a pan extremely full of ore - first into a manual sorter, then anywhere. Each time I pour the whole pan, no matter where I'm pouring it, the game stutters out a couple more frames as the ores hit the surface, then the game hangs for 10+ minutes. No official Windows crash dialog or anything, so maybe the game is still trying? Hard to tell.

Anyway, do I have any recourse other than picking up ores and dropping them into a sorter or whatever one at a time until the game survives emptying the rest of the pan?

Im having the same issue. If I leave a drill for too long the bucket will be too full to empty. I expect it to crash everytime I transfer a buttload of ore.

You're at/(actually passed) the stage where you should move to basic automation for the ores/gems. Put them onto a conveyor belt, run them through sorters and then have them directly drop into smelters and gem compressors.

This is from the dlc, but the concept is the same:

@dave887, not sure what you were trying to post, but it looks like it failed.

@Ciaphas and @FishLove, @dave887 is correct. When you reach a point where you're going to leave a Mine running for extended periods of time and let Ore accumulate, you need to move from dropping ALL the Ore into a single Pan or Sorting large quantities of Ore in 5 different Pans (one for each Ore type), to Sorting them into Smelters.

Smelters will IMMEDIATELY melt the Ore (they can only work on a single type of Ore at a time similar to Gem Compressors) and hold it in liquid form. They have to be PLACED by left-clicking on the location and then left-clicking again once they're oriented correctly. You can then lock them down using the Construction Hammer so you don't accidentally pick them up. You can then left-click on them to pour out the contents into Bar form and then cut the Bar to size using the Logic Saw Hook. Similarly, you can use the Logic Saw Hook to cut Gems to size...

The issue you are experiencing with the Pans is an expected response to a MASSIVE quantity of physics calculations hitting the GPU at the same time, when you pour out the contents of a Pan that has a MASSIVE quantity of Ore Nuggets. The only way to improve the quantity of Ore Nuggets that your computer can handle is to get a better Graphics Card, but that's a limited solution. It just changes the number of Ore Nuggets that the system can handle and the same thing will happen with a higher nugget count. I'm running into the same thing and just about to go purchase the Smelters I need.

If you have more specific questions, please provide as much details as you can.

Yeah, i forgot to empty my hard stone pan and had about 10000 weight units worth of pebbles in there. Good thing i have lots of RAM. Picking up the pan froze my game for about 3 minutes and dropping it into the stonecrusher froze it for another 4 min.

Yeah, you need to get your conveyors configured to deliver the Hardstone straight into the Stone Crusher. That'll prevent that from happening again... Remember that all the locations that use Hardstone will return the unused portion or you could cut off chunks of the appropriate size using the Logic Saw Hook...
