Is there ANY way to move dirt other than the bucket?
I am hoping that maybe I have missed a mine cart or something because the buckets become insufficient quickly once you are more than a few feet from your mining station because you have to cart them back and forth. I placed a bunch of buckets on a pallet but it is not really the best solution and I am wondering if there is a better way other than to buy the mining truck?

There's a cart at the starting plot, or you can buy a better one.

Though why are you moving large amounts of dirt around by hand?

To avoid bucket trafficking at the start - get the simplest pipe just near your diggi hole, put the pan under the drops. Dont move the pan, just stand in spot and fill bucket, drop bucktet dirt in the pan, brush, water drop fills pan, repeat.
This way you can just stand still and click around untill game gets laggy from amount of stuff in the pan :D

Later you will only be using belts to move dirt arund the place.

One way that works for me is to empty buckets into the truck / cart or have the fall in from a conveyor bolt or other dropping mechanism. Drive to your processing base / area, pull them out (unfortunately that HAS to be done manually, no automated unloading). Once a piece has settled after a drop, it loses any physics, only the hitbox to pick it back up. They'll clip through one another, but you can carry an entire plot worth of dirt this way (assuming your computer agrees, haven't reached the amounts similar to pans yet so be carefull with that). You only need the bucket to load / unload / convert voxel dirt into object dirt, basically. You'll get tired of manually washing and sorting the stuff pretty quickly after this, so the hauling can actually become a nice distraction.
