Difference Between T1-T3 Machines
I’ve read enough to piece together that there are Tier 1 through Tier 3 dirt. T1 drill works on T1 dirt. T2 drill works on T1 and T2 dirt and T3 drill works on all dirt. Let’s say I place all three drills on a T1 dirt patch. Will there be a difference between them? I noticed that the drills I placed below ground level (starter area) are grabbing larger nugget chunks. Is that because the drills are placed lower or is it my T2 drill only that’s grabbing larger nuggets (the reason being that it’s T2)?

What about harvesters? Is it kinda the same as the drills where you need a T2 harvester to..harvest T2 dirt or is it more of a reliability upgrade than anything?

Basically the deeper you get the dirt from the more valuable the pieces. The drills use different pipes. Iron for T1, Cloutium for T2 and Corestone for T3 . Each type of pipe can handle more pressure, the more pressure , faster operation. That works for conveyor systems too. The harvesters will handle more throughput with the higher tiers. Klandor will fill in the blanks for you. He's very good at explaining stuff. You can learn a lot from him. I'm more of a summary and hints kind of person.

As it turns out, my initial assessment was correct. A T2 harvester will work with T1 and T2 dirt, but not T3. Also, what is up with the T3 drill? I ended up having to do the trick of “place a concrete block, scoop one shovelful of dirt into it, place the drill and remove the concrete block” to make it work. I tried to reverse engineer what makes that trick affective but couldn’t figure it out lol

The Dirt needs to be in the EXACT CENTER under the T3 Drill. If you've dug to the bottom of T3, there's no dirt for it to work on. You need to make CERTAIN that the Dirt is T3 Dirt and not the top of T4 Dirt before it will work. By placing the Concrete Block, it make certain that the TOP of the block is the beginning of T4. Therefore, a scoop of Dirt on top of the Concrete Block is T3 Dirt...

I’m roughly middle of the T3 layer and I *think* there was dirt in the exact center when I placed it the first few times before having to go online and be like “wtf google”. I even attempted to bury the drill at one point but stopped because I read too much dirt can break it too. I also read about people using the rake, but the description for the rake says that it only works at T1 and T2 levels?

If the Rake found in Bridgepour says that it only works in T1 and T2 Dirt, then there should be a T3 Rake in the Bridgepour Harbor Shop. I haven't played on Bastion Island since the DLC came out, so my memory isn't that clear. All my play has been on Volcalidus and that Save has ZERO activity on Bastion. I started a new Save, immediately went to Bastion Harbor, and went to Volcalidus Island... All play since the DLC came out has been in claims over on Volcalidus, as there are several MOD's that I use that have yet to be updated to v3.0 (DLC).

I've been placing my Bastion T3 drills in the air so I can use gravity assist instead of riser conveyors later. I prime my drills by throwing one shovel of dirt at the bottom tip of the drills screw. Sometimes it won't start right away so I use the shovel to remove just a little off the drill tip and they will start right up.
