if you look the tooltip of the drill and harvester, you have buff icons, the first drills you buy are buffed, but when you craft it, you don't have them, unless you put forge mark in the recipe
so there is always 2 iced marks in the world, if you collect two and keep them iced, no new will spawn. But as soon as you melt at least one new one will spawn somwhere. No timers no anything, its all up to your delivery speed and spawn luck. Buffs are baked into each mark so savescam at the forge wont help.
Edit: the best one i got so far is +2 +2, turned it into a T3 pickaxe, and its scary to use. Digs very fast and very wide. I wonder what +3 +3 looks like XD
Mostly correct but you don't to melt them to have new ones spawn. As soon as you pick up a Forge Mark, another new one spawns in the map. Most times I got like 4-5 in my Truck before I melt them. Had also one case were a new one spawned at the same location as where I just picked one up.
I must be super unlucky then, i did actually try to find some more while already having two of them in the howler several times, but never succeeded. Thank you for correction, i will also verify this in creative mode just to be extra sure.
You dont, you just save manually before forging and check what it is, then reload.
you dont, you just hope for the best
Could do that too. The way i do it, call me crazy, but i just save-check them, stockpile them in order at the forge and fill up an excell sheet with stats they have. So should i need some buffs in a pinch i have them ready. Also trying to save +3 +3 for heavy drills.
Is this cheating? Sure, maybe, call it what you want, its a sandbox so its whatever floats your boat type of situation.
Edit: on second thought i have no idea why it doesnt show stats on the mark right away. I think its like an element of surprise for more casual players maybe. But in all honesty if it would tell you right away what buffs you get, that would not change a single thing. Maybe it would even be better if it did. It would definately save some time and open up an extra decision making oportunity.
Do you just throw them into the input crucible of the forge? Can you throw in multiple at once for better results or only one per craft?
My first forge mark gave me +3/+0 so I assumed you needed two to get two stats but nope it just bounces like if you tried to put the wrong resource in if you try to drop a second forge mark in.
