mining question
i have built up a small pile of cash, and am looking at starting to automate things. is is possible to use a combination of ore sorters, splitters, and so on, to fully automate extraction, and sorting the ore and depositing them directly into a crucible (one for each type of ore( as well as sort the polished gems by type? it seem like it should be possible, if time consuming and expensive. I also am having trouble increasing water pressure in my pipes. i have three inputs and a pressure increaser, but i am unsure how i am able to use the blue energy bars i have crafted in the pressure chamber. i put the bar in the chamber but it just sits there and does not seem to do anything.

If you put a Water Pressure Gauge Hook before and after the Pressure Tank, you can see it working. It will increase the pressure back to the maximum, and it will slowly use up the Shard Bar you put in the Pressure Tank, and the Shard Bar will eventually need to be replaced.

Yeah, you can fully automate the gathering of resources. It may take a while to set up, but never having to hand-sort again pays for itself very quickly :)

ok, got it.

Fully automating you mine is possible. You will also want logic smelters and the saw hook to fully make it - "push button get stuff" The saw will cut anything (bars, ores, gems, veggies) a logic keypad tells the saw how much to cut off the input. The output can definitely be routed to a crucible.

It takes some time to figure out the logic, but I completely automated my entire mine. So yes it can be done.

is it possible to do with out logic parts, using only a series of ore sorters?

Most of it can be automated without Logic. The Logic will at least be needed for certain components, but the basics do not require Logic.

In short, the Harvester (whether it's on Bastion Island or Volcalidus and is a regular Lava Harvester or Heavy Lava Harvester)/Sorter/Smelter/Gem Compressor segment should be as short as possible to optimize efficiency and keep FPS as high as possible. It consists of two segments, Ore and Gems:
  1. As close as possible to the output of the Harvester, place a Sorter Conveyor (which one, right or left, doesn't matter). I generally recommend Gold or Iron first with the other second.
  2. This should output the sorted material to a Smelter, whether it's a Logic Smelter or a regular Smelter, to keep the Ore in liquid form. For the Logic Smelter, I HIGHLY recommend that the Ore be dropped into the Smelter from at least one Grid Square above the top of the Logic Smelter.
  3. You'll need 5 sets of these - Gold, Iron, Shard, Corestone, and Cloutium - with a 6th Sorter feeding to the Stone Crusher for Hard Stone.
  4. Immediately after the Hard Stone Sorter, place a Straight Conveyor with a Gem Polishing Hook on it.
  5. You'll then need 5 more sets of Sorters, recommended to be in the following order: Emerald, Sapphire, Ruby, Diamond, and Onyx.
  6. Each of these will output to a Gem Compressor.
This keeps the quantity of Items in the world to a minimum, as Raw Ore Nuggets, Raw Gems, and Polished Gems are the items that are most likely to crush FPS. The part that requires a minimum of Logic would be a set of at least two Straight Conveyors with a Logic Saw Hook on the last one. The Logic Saw Hook needs a Logic Keypad connected to it. You deliver whatever you need to cut to size onto the first of the two Straight Conveyors, which sends it through the Logic Saw Hook. They Logic Keypad tells the Saw Hook the size of the Item to cut off. The cut off portion gets delivered out the opposite side from the Logic connection on the Saw Hook and the remaining portion just continues on through.

Let us know if you need any clarification on any of this. Please be as detailed as you can as to what you don't understand.

Klandor's setup is a good goal, but as you build out, as sorters are expensive, I suggest save up for just 3 sorters, sort out the gold and iron first as Klandor said (need at least one), but then drop it on a loop with the last sorter. A sorter with nothing on it splits every other item, so leave a piece of gold on it, with smelter, compressor, or pan under it, then add to the top of the sorter one other item type at a time, as you make more money you can build out with all the other sorters that Klandor is talking, about 10 of them. This worked great for me dealing with my gems until I was completely setup.

I generally find that it isn't THAT hard to earn the Hydrocoins needed to get the Sorter Conveyors, Smelters, and Gem Compressors. Hydroneer pretty much is an HC printing factory game. I consider getting that set up going a pretty much a priority, as it prevents an early catastrophe from happening...

I'd look to get AT LEAST 4 going early, the third being Shards. This will allow you to have a supply of Shard Bars available for any Pressure Tanks you have in your Mine...

It's as much as a shard bar factory as an HC factory once it's really running, honestly maybe easiest would be one sorter to grab the gold and dump the rest into a shredder to save your FPS or spam Clear Raw resources. Going have to try this in a new game.

But yeah the game really is about getting over that hump and there are many ways to go. You start out with every bit of ore being vital to you as you scrape for HC, but then you are dropping/leaving huge stacks of HC at all the stores and using the clear raw resources without a second thought.

Also for the shards, I sort them into a smelter down in the depths of my mine right after my harvester. This is where I need them anyway for the boosters right before drills and harvester, I mean you can't craft with shards, shame too, we could have light-sabers. Second reason is I'm just use to it as shards use to have issue falling through inclined belts, this is better now, but I still feel like I get less jams this way.
