my game doesn't save
Huh. Love the game, very relaxing. Although I've had this issue twice already : my save just disapears !
For more information : my steama and computer are in french, but i play the game in english. When I first launched it, it automatically put itself in french, I started a game, lost my shovel, went back to the menu, changed it to english and started a new game (slot 2). After a day or so, I start up the game and it's in fench again, and when i click continue all my progress is lost. Slots 2-3-4 are brand new, while 1 is the one without the shovel. I start a new game in slot 2, I learned a lot in between so it's ok.
But today it happened again ! I start up the game, language is reset, and my progress is gone.

Can someone tell me where the save files are located so I can at least back them up ? I understand the game is still very much in devlopment, which is why my post is so detailed, I hope it can be adressed at some point.

If you play on windows 10 check that the ransom ware security feature is allowing the game to save. It happened to me with a few games where I was having similar issues saving and running them.

Well, it did it again. I give up. I restarted my comupter and it spawned me in an empty world. no truck, no shovel, no pan etc. and none of my progress either..

are you sure you hit quit and save and the only quit button?
as Red Rum Lover said some Antivirus software can block save/loading.

Hi Olga,
Savegames are located here:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mining\Saved\SaveGames
Backup and restore the files works great. I often take backups before beginning new projects ingame. Hope this will help you.

Yes, as between restarting my computer the save work, and I even reload before quitting the game to make sure there was a save.

I had the same issue yesterday.

Started a new save 2 days ago. Bought the largest land plot. Bought and assembled some equipment and logged off for the night. When I logged back in yesterday my entire save was gone and I was starting over. Not a lot of fun to be found when that happens lol.

So I tried going into the folder but it doesn't exist... I have Mining but inside there is no "Saved" folder...

That's odd. Normally, you should have the following folders:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\ Mining\ Saved\ Config\ Crashes\ Logs\ SaveGames\
If these sub folders are missing, something seems to be wrong with your installation or even your Windows. Possibly a problem with the AV software as mentioned above.
The savegame files are called HydroSave.sav to HydroSave3.sav. You can search for them after saving on your hard disk. Perhaps they are stored somewhere else in your case - but that doesn't really make sense for me.

Omg thank you so much !! I was able to find the files by searching by name on the whole computer. They were in a hidden folder on my disk C, while the game, and all of my steam stuff is on disk D, where I also had the Hydroneer files, including Mining, and 3 folders inside, but not this one. Pretty confusing habing similar stuff installed in different places. I wish we could specify where to save but at least I will not be losing progress anymore !

Thank you.

do you have any cleaner program running? some of those might clean files stored in the %APPDATA% or %TEMP% folders

i really dont like when games save their savefiles into the %APPDATA% folder... would be better if it saves in the innstalled path...
my main drive is a smaller SSD where windows is installed and all important programs so they always run fine. games and other stuff i save on my larger drive which is an HDD... im probably not the only one with that setting
would be great if the dev would change the savefile path to the installed path instead of %LOCALAPPDATA%

I have a similar setup, with the system on a small disk C ( so I could wipe and replace without losing my data) and data on a big disk D. I always try to make sure nothing is saved on C so I hope the dev will see this case and implement the option to choose the savefile path.

And I have an antivirus with a "system watcher" with a rollback function. Apparently it rolls back any changes it considers a threat. I've never had a problem with it until now (didn't even know about it until the people in this thread pointed it out) I've disabled it for now, but it seems like a useful feature, so I hope this whole thing gets fixed somehow. At least I can back up the saves now so I could turn it back on if I wanted to bother with reuploading my save every time XD

How would I do this, I'm on Windows 11 but I think it's the same when it comes to protection.

I'm sure this has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread (and for sure in other discussions), but there is a checkbox to save to the Steam Cloud. If that is NOT checked, maybe do so and see if that helps? If it is checked, then your save files should be in Steam and NOT on the local machine...
