How to complete quests?

I started with the gold dagger quest, used a gold bar of weight ~220, crafted a gold dagger, but the quest giver throws it on the ground and say it's not what he wanted. Confirmed that both the quest paper says "gold dagger" and the item crafted is a "gold dagger". Bought the scale, the final gold dagger is also way above 200 in weight.

Tried two other quests (Agnes and Desmond) who wants gold bar of weight 48.5 and 41.5 respectively. Tried all kind of gold bars above the weights, even tried to use the saw and split to get as close to the final weight as possible but it is quite painful since the smallest bar size seems to be 6. Gave a gold bar of weight 50 to Agnes but she throws it on the ground.

Another quest asks for a sapphire gem of weight 12.5, giving him a cut sapphire of 23 and he spits and throws it on the ground.

What am I doing wrong?

Also find it strange that bars becomes heavier than the ore... gold ore of weight 5 becomes a bar of weight 6...

Nevermind, bottom part of the scale was snapped below ground, so I was watching the price display... spent too much time to realize this...
