The place mode is used to place objects like pipes, machines, anvils etc.
For a bucket that I use every time it's not a good way to drop a bucket.
No, apparently you can hold the key down to place things like buckets. You don't just have to drop them. (I've never actually tried, but thats what the Internet says). Also, if you just want to fill a bucket with dirt, it doesn't need to be sitting up properly. You can fill a bucket with dirt even if it is on its side.
I try it :)
Makes dropping things easier, but the bucket still is awkward to use.
Best thing i do to place item properly is to place a concreteblock underneath it. it is even possible to place obejcts underground.
