Controller Support
What can I do to improve the controller response?

Right stick seems to be super sluggish while the left stick is over sensitive. Changing the sensitivity via the Settings menu changes it for both sticks and the mouse....

By sluggish I mean turning without a cart is only slightly faster than when using a cart, and driving the Hydro Truck... forget about it... faster to walk and it won't turn and go forward easily...

Hell I thought it was my controller, so I bought a new better controller, but it is exactly the same... I tried 3rd party programs to adjust it but it doesnt seem to make a difference within the game.

Any thoughts? I'm just so frustrated trying to play with my better half in multiplayer.

As a test I reconfigured my mouse as a game pad and same thing. The left/right movement is REALLY sluggish. Not the strafing but the actual turning. It really is only slightly faster than turning with the Agile Cart.

I can increase the sensitivity to 9 and it seems to work ok with the gamepad, but then the mouse is overly sensitive. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but since this game is splitscreen it affects the player using the mouse and it is extremely frustrating.

Input sensitivity drastically alters turning speed. Put it back to 2.5 and see how things feel.

Outside of graphics and game design, I'm not a programmer so I'm not speaking from experience, but it seems like having a separate sensitivity setting for both controller and mouse would fix this problem.

Well the setting isn't a mouse setting. Carts and trucks turn with keyboard. But changing it causes both to turtle.

I think that setting specifically exists for vehicle control, not for fixing mouse and gamepad.

Hmmm... the turning with Right Thumb is so bad at 2.5... it's almost normal at 5.

Vehicles though... Going forward is ok, then slightly turning seems ok... but if you go to make a hard turn it is no longer going forward,,,,

Heh I tried changing the move forward/back to triggers just to see and that just feels weird LOL.

There's also the missing mouse wheel function from the settings. So when I'm building I have to walk several meters away to place something properly when using the controller.

As a side note, we both LOVE this game, I just want us both to be comfortable with the controls. This has been a struggle since we started playing. Well, this and the screen setting for splitscreen is fidgity. But that is at least something I can play with until it works right.
The controller thing though... I need to find a work-around.

There is a file for the controller support you can edit in notepad. It's mostly keymapping, but I'm seeing stuff for deadzone and directional. Possibly worth investigating?

Oh? Thank you I hadn't even thought of that. Looking into it now.

It didn't look too fleshed out, so not entirely sure how much mileage you can get out of it. My particular file is blank as I haven't ever used my gamepad to play this. But it's still a lead albeit a small one.

Mine is sparse as well. All the titles are there for every function but they are blank. Seems just a naming connection. Gonna dig in to it and see what I can come up with. Again though I tried using 3rd party software to increase the stick sensitivity in Windows, but it seems like it gets canceled out in the game. It feels like the stick is being throttled by something in the engine.

Is it possible that steam is overriding your 3rd party tweaks? I know it has it's own controller config and calibration settings. Use them often for other games.

*Facepalm* ~sigh~ Yeah that was it... Disabled Steam Input (was set at default) and that seems to have done the trick. Overlooked it...

Thank you for your help!

No worries. You got it working how you want, so that's a win imo. Now have fun with your partner :)
