If it is splitting 50/50(1 resource straight through and the next to the side) it likely isn't reading the resource in the tray.
If you have picked up the splitter that had a resource in the tray and placed it back down, you still need to pick up and replace the resource in the tray.
Precision placement of the resources in the tray is sometimes necessary. Ores and most of the gems are easy since there are usually only 1 resource per tray and most lie relatively flat and stay where you dropped them. Keep them close to the center so they aren't touching the edge of the tray and it should work fine.
The exceptions are the rubies and crystals, which tend to bounce at angles and roll when dropped. If you have trouble keeping those centered on the tray, I would suggest trying to use the precision placement by holding "E" with the resource in your hand.
Also note that if you save and quit while your drills/harvesters are running and you have dirt/resources moving on the belts, it will likely cause misses/issues the first few seconds when you load back into the save.
It has something to do with the syncing of the saved resource positions and the movement/momentum of the resources.
Most of the issues are significantly less than what was previously expected in prior game builds but it hasn't been completely solved yet.
This is probably it. I've been picking up and placing down splitters with resources in them like a madman trying to organize what should be a basic line. Never occurred to me that I'd need to replace the resource.
Feels like this is a bug that is worth fixing.
You are so right. I find if I leave my T1 site and farm to go to my T2 site, it jams everything up. Now i'm fine going shopping, it just seems to be when I go to another mine setup.
Just going to add, if the tray is empty, it will split the first resource it comes across and then 50/50 whatever comes next, it can cause some chaos.
but as mentioned, picking up and placing the resource on the tray again fixes the issue.
It seems that when they are picked up, the item itself also needs to be replaced or it doesn't get registered.
This!
Just started playing the game a few days ago and noticed my splitters weren't working correctly - Iron was being filtered in the Gold Splitter, etc. For some reason it turns out the iron Ore was bugged and wouldn't even be smelted down. Had to remove the iron in the tray, add another one - and it was good to go!
If Raw Ore or other Bars are being sorted into Smelters and Ore goes into the wrong Smelter, it will not get Smelted as Smelted Ore doesn't mix. If one has just emptied a Smelter and another Ore ends up in the Smelter, then the original Ore will not get Smelted. That is by design.
Generally issues with Sorting are player error related, but an extended play session can introduce issues. Some of those issues can be resolved by Saving the game, returning to Main Menu, and reloading the Save, others require a Save and Quit to Desktop, and a few require action in the game (such as fixing Sorters). Also note that placing a Raw Ore Nugget will only sort Raw Ore Nuggets. For example, if one is sorting Iron into a specific Smelter and wants to send ALL Iron there (Raw Nugget AND Iron Bars), one must place both a Raw Iron Nugget AND an Iron Bar on the Sorting Tray. I generally will cut a 1 Weight X Bar (X being whatever Ore is involved) for this purpose, as I frequently toss the unused portion of a Bar back onto the Conveyors, after pulling it out of the Smelter to cut a specific weight off for construction...
It's a user created bug. The reason this happens to new players is because they grab the magnet stick and grab up stuff with it and rub them all over the sorting tray in the process. In other words, you overloaded and broke it. This is not on the devs, this is on your greed to salvage a few clumps you spilled on the floor instead of using delete raw resources.
If you insist on magneting messes, be aware of the splitter tray and don't drag things over it. And this also holds true for the hand sorter. Use the magnet with care, not wanton chaos
Given this thread was dormant for two years up until a few days ago, I can't remember the specifics of the sorting logic or the issue I had with it, but if more than a few people are having this issue, I'd sooner call it a bug than an issue of "greed".
