why is tier 2 made with cloutium and not gold?
Tier 1 drills and harvesters are made with iron in the forge and tier 2 is made with cloutium; why is tier 2 made with cloutium and not gold? Why isn't gold usable to make drills and harvesters in the forge?

It makes sense for it not to be apart of any drills and harvesters. Gold is on the softer side of metals. It would last 2 minutes before breaking apart. Like an example in Minecraft gold pickaxes are the worst to make in terms of durability

i mean gold is a pretty weak and low durability metal isn't?

Cloutium isn't even a real ore.

Cause Gold sucks.
It just looks pretty but is very weak and malleable.
Not a good idea to make mining equipment out of it.
Rather use fantasy metal instead.

As for the weapon requests. Hey if King wants a useless dagger that's fine as long as he pays for the expenses :lunar2019grinningpig:

Then why bring gold into the game if it's not as useable the other ores. Why couldn't gold have some other special use if it can't be used for making machines? Couldn't it be used for some kind of special trading post or maybe be used to craft special electronics/logic devices.

Naa, thats old news. You can make anything out of anything theese days. Personally i dump gold into swords, for juicy 30%. Golden swords for days.

Edit: i miss the days when you could make gigantic necklaces or rings, and also that huge AF sword that wouldnt fit in the cart.

I know but he said "Why bring gold into the game"
Being able to craft jewelry and weapons out of anything is a very recent thing.

Gold was brought into the game long time ago and it's purpose was money making and making jewelry.

And yep same .. i wish devs brought the different sizes for weapons and jewelry back.

Gold is used in the manufacturing of money. Money is important - it lets you buy things.

From a balance perspective, because you only get sensible amounts of cloutium from digging down into T1 dirt. The surface is basically "tier 0" and it's expected that you mine down further than that before progressing to tier 2.

Fun fact. You can get both cloutium and corestone by handpaning at Surface Tier. But its obviously a dumb idea right? Well i discovered that if you dont use the harvester, only a drill, you still get rare ores from the surface. Its the harvester that limits the ores to tiers.

So armed with this knowlage, you can make a build with a drill, a pan, and a dripping water, no harvester. And just brush it manually (thats my new go-to meta for new games btw) Anyway. You can technically multiply this, lets say 7-9 times and put them in a circle around you. And just manually brush all of the pans. You will be able to keep up with the drill rates.

So in theory, if you dont mind braindead clicking over longer periods of time, you will be able to buy T3 drill bypassing T2 completely. And then go to Aquifier with it, because you have water at the bottom there so you wont need many pipes to hook it up.

As stupid as it sounds it might work. I didnt test it though, its just a theory.

Gold has historically been used for financial or stature purposes. As money or showing off one's wealth with gold jewelry, or for items of a "symbolically important" nature.

As a "metal", it's not very useful... it's soft and melts relatively easily.

... until fairly recent history where they have advanced metallurgy, and small amounts of it can be used for things like infrared shielding and sun-visors for spacesuits.
Not to mention it's use in some forms of electronics......

Interesting find. Sounds like a viable alternative to fishing for getting past the early game grind. You could even automate it to a decent degree by letting multiple drills feed a conveyor that dumps the dirt in your pan. Place a drip pipe above and all you need to do is keep left-clicking until your index finger bleeds.

Yup, good point there. So good in fact, im really tempted to give it a proper test now lol.

Edit: also, we were only talking surface level. I didnt really test if you can handpan out corestone from the bottom of EC or not. If yes then its definately doable.
