How to split to logic gem compressor
I'm apparently doing something wrong hooking up my logic gem compressor because the gems frequently get stuck in the small crack between the splitter and the gem compressor, and I have to dig them out. I have 4 iron boosters on my intake, and my belts are moving along quick, so it's not like I need more pressure.

To maximize the chance of success I even put the gem splitter as the first one in my chain. The logic gem compressor sits directly in front of the splitter.

I don't have this issue with any of the other splitters because they all go through funnels, but you can't put a funnel on the logic gem compressor because of it's compression lid, and it doesn't fit as closely as a funnel which is why I'm guessing the gems get stuck.

Has anyone figured out a way to keep the gems from getting stuck in that little gap?

When I loaded my game yesterday I had like 1,000 gems stuck in that crack (not an exaggeration.) I'm so glad for the magnet on a stick. It really kept me from rage quitting.

I can understand considering Rage Quitting. Some minor issues that I might suggest:

  • Do not have Dirt or Nuggets drop off Vertical Conveyors. Always try to end on a Straight Conveyor.
  • As of 2.0.6, Funnels should be fixed, but try to avoid needing them. If you're only dropping one square in height, the landing zone for the Dirt or Nugget is fairly predictable if you Dirt/Nugget is centered.
  • Try to drop all Ore Nuggets straight into a Smelter
  • Use Sorters (sometimes referred to as Splitters) to branch off each type of Ore (onto a Straight Conveyor and THEN into a Smelter)
  • Run the Raw Gems off the end, with a Polisher on the Straight Conveyor immediately after the Sorter setup.
  • Try to get all Polished Gems straight into a Conveyor. There may need to be a few Conveyors (Vertical or Straight) after the Polisher to allow installation of a Pressure Booster and Gem Compressor automation Logic.
  • Separate your Miner Pipes (Iron or Cloutium) from your Conveyor Pipes (run Miner Pipes above and/or behind the Miners).
  • Get Logic Valves installed on each set of Pipes and connect the Miner Pipes to one switch, the Conveyor Pipes to a second switch, and install a Logic Valve on the first Straight Pipe after the Intake Pipe going to a third switch.
  • Always shut down your mine before Saving and Quitting to Desktop to prevent Dirt, Nuggets, or Gems getting caught in a Physics bug in the Graphics Engine that can result in a stuck item on restart.
  • Shut down your mine by turning off the Miners, allowing all Dirt/Nuggets/Gems to run out to their destination, and activating the Gem Compressor just before turning off the Master Switch and "turning on" the Miners.

All this reduces the chance of Dirt/Nuggets/Gems getting stuck between Conveyors, getting stuck dropping off Conveyors, getting stuck due to a known physics bug in the graphics engine, and (with the valve actions) getting the mine ready for a restart when you resume play. You can also, after running everything out to it's destination and turning off the water, clear all Dirt and clear all Raw Ore. This will make sure the game is as clean as can be on restart, too.

Have you ACTUALLY CHECKED your water pressure going into the Gem Compressor (or at least the pressure going into the last Conveyor? If it's getting stuck while the Gem Compressor is open, then that's the first thing to confirm. I generally have a Pressure Booster near my Gem Compressor, no matter what, just to make sure. With 2.0.6+, that's the most likely point that would cause issues with the Gem Compressor.

I just put a pressure display on the pipe at the gem sorter and it says 129. I assume that's high enough?

Might be, but it could be higher. I'm assuming you're on Iron Pipes and running T1 Miners/Harvester(s). If so, you may want to look into Intake Boosters (built at Icehelm and attach to the up to 4 points on the Intake Pipe) and add a Pressure Booster towards the Gem Compressor area. I generally will install a T-Pipe, point the third side upwards, a Vertical Coneyor on the Elbow Pipes going up, a single Straight Conveyor after the VP, and cap off at that SC. Below, place a Pressure Booster and then continue your run to the Gem Compressor immediately after the PB...

Let me know if you have any questions about this...

Adding a straight conveyor after the splitter seems to have fixed it. Apparently splitters don't have the speed of a regular conveyor. Thank you so much!

My automated gem compressor:
A ticker gives inputs each second, but these are delayed 10 sec.
after 10 sec I stop the conveyor main line where sorters are, leaving 3 seconds the compressors-feeding conveyors, so they empty the gems in the bucket avoiding them to be catched while compressor cap goes down. (the problem is indeed collision with the machine cap when is lowered)
After this there is the compressors operation, and at the end the main sorter line restarts.
To avoid compressors run also on "restart-conveyors" point, I made a T split on the compressor cable, after the T i have a straight cable with 1S delay and another straight with the logic switch.
This will make the signal go one time when the switch is open, and the second time the switch activates 1 second earlier the signal passage, so the compressors work like hit and miss, one input activates them, the second gets blocked, then again restart.
This have no issues so far with 66 tier 2 drills.

You're very welcome. That was my experience, too.
