ram drills give better ore the deeper you go so no more Goliath drills and DAVID
Could be though that it is also locked behind the crafting mechanics, but this info is what I gathered from the patch notes.
EDIT the line in the patchnotes:
- New TIERED drill system. These drills do not remove the dirt under them, instead only work to a certain depth depending on their tier.
I was quite happy the way things worked before when I just paid for what I wanted.

Actually, you do NOT have to sort out each individual type of Gem. Just dump all Polished Gems into a Gem Compressor and activate it. You end up with a single Gem of each type that is an accumulation of each Gem of that type. No need for separate Gem Compressors. A single one will handle a whole mine.
Besides, why did you "reactivate" a Discussion that was from *May*, just to complain about the Sorter System?!?
