Some Initial Thoughts from a Fresh Newbie
I actually placed this one my wishlist a day or two ago so I was thrilled to see it go on sale and immediately made the purchase. Downloaded the game and watched the tutorial video but otherwise went into the game blind.

The graphics are great, the sound seems pretty spot on. The game seems immersive. Cool. I picked up the shovel like the tutorial described and immediately noticed that clicking with it was doing nothing. I thought perhaps I missed something and went back through the tutorial. Nope, it just wouldn't turn any dirt. And here's where the frustration began.

I made my way over to the dirt pit near the river so my newbie tools would all be in one place, and proceeded to use them, again, as prescribed by the tutorial. After several attempts, I got the shovel to turn some dirt into the bucket, but then with the bucket I couldn't pour the dirt into the pan. More frustration.

After several more attempts, I managed to finagle a bit of dirt into the water pan, did some scrubbing, and found my first gold nugget. Yay! I filled the water pan back up and was back to having to fight the shovel to get it to turn any dirt. I managed to scrub three gold nuggets before giving up and heading to the trading post to sell my treasures. With about 20 minutes of play time, I earned a a total of 15 coins.

I feel as though there's a lot to like in this game, but my first twenty minutes were about fighting the controls to get a few basic tools to work the way the tutorial says they're supposed to work. Is the game really this buggy or am I missing something important about how it all works?

As it stands I'm about ready to refund and move on to something else. My gaming time is limited and I'm not about to spend half of it fighting the controls in an attempt to play.

Hi there!

I'm sorry to hear that you had some troubles in the game.

I get what you are describing , hence the main thing for you seem that the controlls are just not right for you.

I would suggest rebinding these in the options menu and give it another shot :-)

Thank you though for giving us feedback about the game , it really helps the developer make a great game even more awesome for everyone.

If there's anything else that you would like to share then please do so!

Kind regards,

DaGrafX

I appreciate the quick reply, thank you. :)

To be honest I'm not sure what I'd need to rebind, or to where. I don't have any problems left clicking my mouse; it's just that sometimes the tool works when I do that and sometimes the tool doesn't work when I do that. This applies to the shovel and the dirt bucket; I haven't noticed a problem getting the brush to work.
DaGrafX Jul 15, 2020 @ 3:14pm
Well the shovel sometimes has a mind of its own.

Sometimes it can be a little hard to aim the dirt into the Pan.

Have you tried filling up the Bucket with dirt and dropping that into the pan?

It's somewhat faster aswell :-)
Shades Jul 15, 2020 @ 4:46pm
Yes, the bucket was also sometimes refusing to empty, much like the shovel refusing to dig. It would work sometimes after several tries.

I went back into the game for another session. Not sure what changed but I got the tools working a lot more reliably the second time around. I'm guessing there's a quirk with collision/interaction zones between the tools and/or the environment. That's only a guess though.

I have this same problem. Is it a graphics card issue? I can't possibly believe that everyone else is having an easy time with the controls while I and a few others find the controls unusable.

Can we get something like a point and click alternative control system? You'd sell more copies of the game if the controls were not so wonky for some of us.

Are people understanding the thing with the two aimpoints?

One aimpoint is where you are looking, the other aimpoint it where a carried object will land if you drop it.

I found it quite awkward to start with but found it very useful once I got the hang of it.

How're you fighting with the shovel? You literally just click on a bucket at literally any range with a shovel full of dirt, and in it goes...

Exactly as described. I "literally just" clicked, and "literally just" nothing happened. At all. About 90% of the time. THAT is how I was fighting with it. The shovel wouldn't turn dirt. It wouldn't drop the dirt it didn't turn in the bucket. I clicked and it did nothing. Then when I finally managed to get dirt into the bucket, the bucket did the same thing. What you describe isn't what was happening for me, per my initial description.

If you can't understand that, I don't know how else to explain it short of recording video.

This was part of the problem, but not all of it. I've managed to make a few mining trips, but it was clunky and unfun. I went ahead and refunded it, so problem solved I guess.

What he said. Look I've done a lot of different control schema -- some of the worst being in space games, lol -- and this is not responsive and doesn't work as advertised. This is why I'm trying to CONSTRUCTIVELY ask, could it be a problem with a particular graphics board or somesuch, rather than (as y'all assume) something wrong with our heads?

You know, it's an everyday miracle that with all the parameters that go into interfaces on a million and more variations of desktop that any of this works for all people. Sometimes it's a bug.

Hey @shades, you have any commonalities to this?

Not as much as I might have originally assumed. I figured it might be some Radeon or AMD tomfoolery, but maybe not. Leaving this here in case the developer needs it for debugging.

you may have dun it already but check for new graphics driver windows updates and net framework and so on maybe you missed one or a new one just popped up. might fix your problem.

You may need to check your mouse driver. Doesn't really sound like a graphics problem but an input one.
Your GPU doesn't process things like user input, it process the visual display associated with the action.
A graphics issue would be clicking the shovel and seeing it jerk or not move but having dirt appear in it.

Done that. And @N0ma13, I'm using a generic mouse driver but I uninstalled and reinstalled it.

Out of curiosity, have you noticed the border of the digging areas and how it looks the same but cannot be dug?
If you're having this issue out in the middle of the field then disregard that.
I don't honestly know where they're sending processing for actions such as mouseclick. When I stated that the GPU doesn't do that, I should have added that the GPU doesn't normally do that but modern GPUs can be set to do parallel processing of basic calculations. I really don't see processing inputs such as mouseclicks being sent there but I suppose it is possible.
More likely to use the card to calculate the terrain update post input processing.. That may actually make it a GPU issue if there's a check to verify the terrain update before initiating the change/animations.
No plans to decompile or anything, just pre-work coffee warm up thoughts.
