I tend to take my time. I have 72 hours in the game and could see putting another 50 or more into it before I set it aside for a while. I'm currently trying to build a large underground mining area to play around with the automation a bit. And I haven't built any houses or buildings on the surface yet either so I'll get my money's worth before I'm through lol. Still, it's a nice little game no matter how much you put into it.
As Draa said, how much game play you get really is in fact up to you. There's a fair bit you can do, ranging from establishing an automated underground mine to building a house to building a mining factory complete with a refueling depot for vehicles. What you do and how you do it is literally up to your imagination and part of the fun in games like this is trying new things to discover little ways you can tweak your designs to function just a little better, then seeing your tweaks pay off with better efficiency or more money.
Additionally, there's also the community here which tends to be very helpful. People post design ideas, tips on what works well and what doesn't, little ways to improve efficiency, etc. Definitely helps I'd say.
The only real downside I can think of to this game is that it can be somewhat slow and grindy in the beginning, as most games like this (mining games) are. However it does ramp up quicker than most other mining games. I'd say after about 3 hours of hard work you should be able to not only afford buying one of the additional claims, but should be getting some larger ores and gems as well. I've played other mining games (Gold Rush: The Game for instance) and it usually takes quite a bit longer than just 3 hours to start getting into the really good stuff (tier 3 mining in the aforementioned game for instance).
So my subjective opinion is that yes, this game is definitely worth buying, especially since the price is so low. I'd honestly pay $15 USD for this game and still not feel ripped off and that $20 USD would be the upper limit I'd pay for this game in its current form, but again that's just my subjective opinion.
Sorry for the rather lengthy response, I wanted to be thorough. I hope this answers your question! ^_^
If you're on the fence about it, watch a few gameplay videos. You'll see the state of the game and will be able to decide if it's worth it. It will depend on what you value in a game. For me it's a super good deal because I really love this kind of gameplay and I'm not too fussed about the bugs. I do wish it was prettier though, but obviously it's not the dev's priority atm.
