Why no pockets?
I'm not asking to carry the equivalent of a freight train in my pockets but why can't we carry money in them? Or a few gold nuggets?

And why can't we carry a shovel in one hand and a bucket in the other hand and just drop one when we try and use the other?

Probably because of the simplistic approach ole Mad wanted. Reminds me of the Atari 2600 game "Adventure" which had the same mechanic of only being able to carry around one thing at a time. I'd say it's because of the only "one thing at a time" approach that makes it unique and different from other games which has complicated inventories and such.

But that's my guess.

This is pretty much it - Hydroneer is my take at stepping away from traditional inventory systems and to take a unique approach to handling items in a game. The change can be a shock at first but I think you'll find players with a lot of hours will tell you they prefer it this way. That being said, this game isn't for everyone's tastes!

At first, I thought it was strange, but I liked the simplicity of the game.

It's amazing how much crap you can fit in a pan if you're careful enough!

Chances are, once you get later in the game, you will take the truck everywhere to shop since it's too far to walk. The truck beds acts as an "inventory" in other games and items can stack inside of it. Also, as you get even further along, since the money remains at the shop baskets, you may just end up keeping 10k or so at each shop just for the sporadic "Home Depot Run" as I call them :)
