Ending (SPOILERS)
I'm sorry but the ending came way too abruptly. I was battling this whole game to enter the spiritforge and the game ended right after i defeated the gatekeeper ! I was expecting at least a level inside or at least some closure concerning the Forgotten or the other Wizard.

I hate the fact i never got to use the gem of eternity, i never got to meet the Forgotten and the BEST levels were the ones that i was cooperating with the other wizard (it gave me a sense of the unknown, the common struggle etc.) - whom i similarly never got to meet.

What i got, instead, was some story that i now can enter the Spiritforge, and the game is pretty much over now. Now, that it felt like the real game started. I was honestly expecting that NOW we're reaching the middle-to-end of the crescendo, where i'm going into some serious stuff. NOW my investment (gamer-wise) is going to start paying off.

So the game got me invested on these three key entities from the get go, and yet i never got to do anything with them.

Although i absolutely love GemCraft (and have been playing since day 1 on Kongregate - ages ago - i think it was originally on ArmorGames ? I think i played it on there too - i can't remember), and although i have been restlessly expecting this to come out (bought it as soon as it came out), i can't help but feel it's just a teaser for the real battle.

I understand you constantly have to up the stakes and tease the player into buying a sequel, but it felt like i played an advertisment of the real game, rather than the real game.

I never got to fill the talisman - i got nowhere near the total shadowcores needed. I never got to get all the skills (i'm missing 3-4 i think?). I never got to cap any of them either. I OBVIOUSLY didn't get all the achievements (if i didn't even got to do the other stuff i'm saying here).

Although the game has SO MUCH to offer, i think it's (and pardon me if i'm being too harsh here) half the game i was expecting. I would prefer if it included the Spiritforge at double the price and was double the length.

By the way, i wouldn't mind if i defeated the Forgotten and she did some sort of time-travel to encourage a sequel. That's still an ending. This, in my humble opinion, isn't.

we do get a bit of confirmation that the small bit after chasing shadows where we find the real gem of eternity is important and yes, while we haven't entered the spiritforge we now know a way to potentially finish the forgotten from those plans for the gem of eternity from that wizard tower

While that is true, I do agree that the story is very lackluster. There's a lot of worldbuilding that's very satisfying, and there's a couple of mysteries, like the unknown controller assisting you with gems 'controlled from within the spiritforge'. But the entirety of the story is literally just one person going from point A to point B. The research found along the way should've been turned into a detour and a test-run of something, so there's at least some manner of gravitas to the story.

I was expecting at least one more field, for sure. Kill the gatekeeper, and get a journal page saying along the lines of "This is it, the final battle to get into the forge, I hope I can beat teh forgotten" or something similar. Or even a journal page *before* the gatekeeper, explaining similar...I don't mind where the story ended, with the paths of all the previous games converging at the forge, just you went in without knowing it was the final battle before the end, which seems odd.

I think the dev is gonna add more story in future updates, hopefully at least.

Its not much different then CS. Basically based on the lore pages this wizard is meeting the wizard coming from CS. Based on this, the spirit forge will continue in Chapter 3. Remember this is "A Lost Chapter". Its a side story to what was happening in CS. The whole spiritforge/forgotten bit will be in Chapter 3.

WHEEEEN.... if i remember correctly i had played the free version of chasing shadows (it had some limited content) AGES ago. In ArmorGames or Kongregate. It was either "chasing shadows" or the previous version - the last version to be for free in such sites anyway.

So when will the next chapter be available??

Also, it bugged me that i didn't need my talisman full to win the game, i mean content-wise. I don't even have any corners filled up yet. And i doubt i'm going to play more, since there's no goal now.

Yes it might take some time but overall I find it an interesting, even somewhat enticing story. I am looking forward to its conclusion.

Remember that this is a Tower Defense game. It is extremely hard to come up with a decent story in this genre, in a medium of a "Game". I am pleasantly content with what we have here.

True, the whole "orbs of presence" thing is quite cool. I'm assuming you're physically still in your tower? And that's how you can select different levels around the land - you have established orbs of presence, right?

It seems so. The wizard with the Gem of Eternity must be physically inside the Spiritforge, while it is implied the wizard we are playing in Frostborn is sitting in his tower from the very first tile.

Yeah that's how it felt anyway. And it's a good thing, since it makes sense to banish monsters and to use mana instead of "life" or whatever other TDs have. If you're a powerful wizard, you can maintain your orb for longer, etc.

That's quite immersive.

I found the ending sudden & unsatisfying too. Guess we have to wait years for more story... I might continue playing out of the blue, but not as intrigued as I was (playing non-stop everyday for 2+ weeks). Gameplay 8/10, story 3/10.

Completely agree with everything you just said. I had the exact same experience.
