I've come to realize that I was doing my Talisman wrong. I was searching for traits I thought useful for the early game. After a bit of trial and error, I've come to see that the most important part of the Talisman is matching the symbols on the tiles themselves.

3+ different symbols in a column gives you +mana at the start of every new wave.
3+ identical symbols in a row gives you +initial mana percentage

Rarity of the individual tiles boosts the gains in wave mana or initial mana.

You will see the little white lights at end of row or column light up if you got a bonus. You can see the bonus as at the bottom of the summary.

Having a much larger starting pool, and getting those extra ticks of mana with every wave would have been crazy useful to early game progression. I didn't make this connection until around level 80. My talisman was all +xp gear and hadn't changed in forever. Just by swapping out two tiles and doing some moving/reshaping, I had +70% initial mana. Suddenly I had crazy amounts of mana, and ended up bumping my skills way up instead of saving as many points.

I highly recommend you use the Undo Changes button liberally to test the best combinations. Also if you accidently scrap a tile, Undo Changes will bring it back.

Note your skill assignment menu will still list you as having X amount of mana from skills. Thats true, but once you go into a Journey or Endurance, you'll see your much larger starting pool.

Your information about the rows and columns is slightly off. Both dont apply in both directions.

If you have 3+ DIFFERENT symbols in a COLUMN you get the mana per wave bonus (There is no Row bonus for different symbols)

If you have 3+ SAME symbols in a ROW you get the initial mana% bonus (There is no column bonus for same symbols)

Note that the symbols dont have be next to each other in a row. Like the same bonus can still be gotten in a row if you go say whisker, whisker, square, whisker. LIkewise the different bonus in a column can still be gotten if you have 2 of the same symbols in a row, just need to have 3 total (Whisker, Square, Whisker, Leaf will still get the 3 bonus)

Good tips none the less. I would right now caution the use of the undo button when you start collecting the fragments that have more then 8 upgrades. Been bug reports of using the undo button will lower fragments to level 8 even if you leveled them above it meaning you lose the shadow cores. With Rarity 100 frags, its extremely expensive to relevel them again.

Do they need to be fully upgraded? Because i don't get any bonus from the rows.

No. and rows have the be the same symbol (3, 4 or 5 same symbols).

Wow, that bonus is actually huge as well. 2 rows and 2 columns, giving +122% initial mana and +247 mana each wave...

@kosmus, blank's don't count as any icon. Has to be 3+ of the SAME icon going across a row (initial mana%), or 3+ of DIFFERENT icons going down a column (mana per wave).

There is no bonus for different icons across a row or same icons going down a column.

Its not bugged and working fine.

I missed the row and column Part, just assumed it meant the same.

Wow - what a discovery. Im still low level but i wont laugh at 20% more mana at start of battle. I triggered the bonus with a similar but not identical marking also. 3 lines in each corner triggered bonus also with pieces which had 1 line in each corner.
