How faithful is the game to "The quest for the Unknown Kadath"?
It's one of my favorite Lovecraft stories but, after seeing the trailer, I see nothing from it, except a passing mention to Randolph Carter and the shadow of the Black Pharaoh.

But the game isn't based on or of the The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath?

It's its own thing - its own story which is pretty much within the Dream Cycle of Lovecraft.

Obviously some artistic liberties have been taken with characters etc.

I'm pretty sure Randolph is actually the uncle to the main character, Morgan.

It's not, which is good. Lovecraft, for all his qualities, had significant limitations, and could not have possibly considered computer games as a medium to tell his stories. This game, takes some of the feel, some of the concepts, and translates it into an interactive medium, something Lovecraft could never have even fathomed.

Alone in the dark and shadow of the comet were heavily lovecraftian games, and way more fun than this game...

It's the same setting, but take note of the types of guns that exist for how long after the fact. The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath also wasn't Randolph Carter's only adventure by any means. If you read his entire saga, then you shouldn't be surprised that this protagonist is named Morgan Carter, or that there was ever more than one Carter to begin with spread across infinity.

Morgan isn't that Carter. But she is a Carter. And should one venture past the gate of the silver key, it would not be difficult to lose track of one's self among the infinite Carters across infinite pasts, presents and futures.
